Science Technician Role in a Secondary School
A well-established secondary school in Waltham Forest is seeking to appoint a Science Technician to join its Science department. This is a full-time role within a busy and supportive school that values practical learning, laboratory safety, and high-quality science education.
The Science department plays a key role in supporting teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, ensuring practical lessons run smoothly and safely.
About the Role
You will support the Science department by preparing and maintaining equipment and materials for practical lessons, ensuring laboratories are fully set up and compliant with health and safety procedures.
The role involves working closely with teaching staff to support experiments, demonstrations, and practical investigations across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5.
You will also assist with stock control, resource management, and maintaining a safe and organised laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare equipment and materials for science practical lessons
Set up and clear down laboratories for experiments and demonstrations
Support teachers during practical sessions where required
Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures
Maintain and organise laboratory equipment and resources
Assist with stock control and ordering of materials
Dispose of waste materials safely according to guidelines
Support the smooth running of the Science department

Experience as a Science Technician in a school or college
Knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics practical work
First aid or laboratory safety training
