Premises Officer Role in an Inclusive Secondary Academy
A successful and inclusive Secondary Academy in Southwark is seeking to appoint a dedicated Premises Officer to join its experienced site team from September. About the Role
As Premises Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining the school's buildings and grounds, ensuring they remain safe, secure, clean, and fully operational throughout the year.
Working closely with the Site Manager and wider facilities team, you will undertake a range of maintenance duties, support health and safety compliance, oversee contractors when required, and help prepare the site for the busy day-to-day life of the academy. This varied role would suit someone with strong practical skills who enjoys problem-solving and takes pride in maintaining high standards.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across the school site
Ensure the buildings and grounds remain safe, secure, and well presented
Complete routine health and safety inspections and report any defects
Assist with opening and locking the premises as required
Support the management of contractors and external maintenance works
Prepare classrooms, halls, and outdoor areas for school events and examinations
Monitor site security, alarms, lighting, and access arrangements
Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, compliance, and site checks
Assist with manual handling and general site duties as required

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Previous experience in a premises, caretaker, facilities, or maintenance role
Good practical DIY and maintenance skills
Knowledge of health and safety procedures and safe working practices
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
Strong communication and organisational skills
A proactive, flexible, and reliable approach to work
Desirable
Experience working within a school or educational setting
Basic knowledge of plumbing, decorating, carpentry, or electrical maintenance
Health and Safety or COSHH qualifications
Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within schools
Experience coordinating contractors or planned maintenance programmes
