Senior Consultant - Capital Projects

Location: London/Manchester The UK government’s “UK Infrastructure: A 10 Year Strategy” sets out a long-term, cross-sector plan to drive economic growth, deliver net zero, and improve public services. With a £725 billion commitment, the strategy prioritises stability, private investment, and robust delivery across transport, energy, digital, water, housing, and social infrastructure. Sustainable infrastructure will play a critical role in delivering this strategy. The opportunity Advising clients on their most complex sustainable infrastructure challenges, is a core focus for EY, and something that spans multiple sectors and competencies. Our team are focused on the following core areas across:- The initiation and successful delivery of transformation programmes, tackling our clients’ most pressing and complex initiatives
- Sustainable infrastructure to support the government’s green infrastructure plan and ambition to deliver net zero to the UK
- The involvement in early stage, large scale infrastructure project development activities, as well as ongoing support, to drive more successful infrastructure project delivery
- Business analysis - evaluating business processes, gathering requirements, identifying areas for improvement, and developing and implementing solutions to help enable the successful delivery of Infrastructure transformation projects
- Supporting the development of robust and sustainable HMT Green Book business cases
- Developing innovative solutions from end-to-end to support clients in achieving sustainable change, including their transition to net zero / net negative
- Development of reports, documents and presentations to assist clients and senior members of the EY team with decision making
- Coordination and facilitation of client meetings and workshops
- Programme and project management delivery, within both traditional and agile project environments
- Building trusted client relationships that contribute to enhancing EY’s brand and reputation
- Providing leadership, training, coaching, and guidance to junior staff
- Contribute to business development, including development of proposals in response to tender opportunities
- Contribute to internal practice development, around the Infrastructure market in general but also within specific competency / capability focus area
- Contribute to EY’s positioning across the UK (and global) infrastructure market, through an active social media presence, and thought leadership development
- An understanding of, and interest in, the UK Infrastructure sector
- Familiarity with sustainability and climate change challenges across industries, and the UK Infrastructure 10 Year Strategy
- Experience working in industry, government or a management consultancy environment
- Ability to analyse data and deliver insightful, practical solutions
- Experience of communicating with senior clients and / or stakeholders
- Skills and experience in Programme and Project Management
- Presentation & facilitation skills
- Understanding of both traditional management techniques and agile ways of working
- Knowledge of one or more of the following sectors is preferred: Energy, Government, Transport, Power and Utilities, Telco and Media
- The confidence to build lasting relationships and influence senior colleagues and clients in leading roles
- Proven ability to adaptand learn in an innovative environment
- Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification or experience
- Experience within the Infrastructure sector, with specific experience in one or more sub-capabilities (e.g. Programme management, business case development, transformation definition & delivery, strategy and policy development)
- The ability to write to a high standard, whilst being fluent/native in English with additional major languages desired
- Ability to make adapt style and approach to suit different contexts and environments
- A willingness to travel and work across the UK and potentially overseas
- Knowledge and experience working on large scale digitally enabled infrastructure programmes
- An ability to adaptand learn in an innovative environment
