  • Join us on our Trainee Development Programme, where you will be given the training and tools to develop your skills through a series of modules over an 18-month period followed by a graduation event.
  • We offer apprenticeships from a level 3 to a degree level apprenticeship fully funded by Galliford Try, tailored to your current education level and course entry requirements.
  • This role is available for a Summer 2026 start, with the possibility of an earlier start date to suit yourself and the business.

What could your day look like?

As an Apprentice HS&E Advisor, you will support the HS&E team in delivering day-to-day Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) activities across your designated business unit. This is a development role designed to build competence, confidence and capability in construction HS&E, with structured support, mentoring and training.

You will assist with site monitoring, document reviews, reporting, and the promotion of a positive HS&E culture. You will play an active part in learning and applying our management system requirements and supporting the embedment of our behavioural change programme, Challenging Beliefs, Affecting Behaviour.

As part of the role, you will:

  • Support HS&E Advisors and the HS&E Manager with day-to-day HS&E activities across sites and offices.
  • Attend sites regularly to assist with inspections/SSERs, safety walks, observations and engagement activities.
  • Support the review of project HS&E documentation (e.g., RAMS, CPP content checks, briefings) under supervision.
  • Help ensure HS&E actions are recorded, tracked and closed within agreed timescales using approved systems.
  • Assist with incident reporting, evidence gathering and investigation support, ensuring quality and timeliness of inputs.
  • Support delivery of HS&E communications, briefings and awareness initiatives as directed.
  • Engage with operational teams and supply chain partners to promote safe behaviours and reinforce expectations.
  • Support the rollout and embedment of Challenging Beliefs, Affecting Behaviour through participation in engagement sessions and site activities.
  • Maintain accurate HS&E records, dashboards, and reporting inputs for the business unit.
  • Commit to personal development and attainment of relevant HS&E qualifications and competencies.

As part of the apprenticeship programme you will be expected to work in and around the location advertised, with the possibility for expanding travel to other projects and locations in the future. This may include staying away from home.

What do we offer?

We put our people first and our benefits package reflects that by offering a range of attractive options to help support your career and development, on top of a competitive apprentice salary.

  • A career path, not just a job – all our apprentices join us on a permanent contract
  • 28 days holiday excluding bank holidays, increasing with years of service, with an option of utilising our holiday purchase scheme
  • Private medical insurance
  • Two paid volunteering days per year
  • Agile working programme
  • A range of benefit schemes including: Save as You Earn share purchase scheme, Employee Assistance Programme, Enhanced maternity and paternity leave, Pension scheme, Cycle to Work scheme and discounts on your favourite brands and holidays

What are we looking for?

We invite applications from those who are passionate about the industry, who are leaving education and want to further their studies, or those who haven’t yet found a route into construction.

You will be willing to learn and get involved in key projects, have the passion, adaptability and a flexible approach to work, along with good communication skills. We are here to support your learning and professional growth; we do not expect you to have any prior experience for this role.

To qualify for the apprenticeship study requirements, you must have eligibility to live and work in the UK without restriction and achieve the minimum entry requirements to enrol onto an apprenticeship course related to the role you are applying for.

Galliford Try welcomes applications from candidates who would like to work full-time, reduced hours or flexibly and this will be discussed in more detail as part of the recruitment process.

What’s next?

  • Step 1: Apply for the role you’re interested in – we can’t wait to receive your application!
  • Step 2: Applicants who pass an initial screening stage will be invited to an interview with the local team.

While we work hard to keep you updated with your application every step of the way, due to the high volume of applications and assessment centres taking place, please be mindful that there may be a delay at some stages in the process.

Please note: the closing date for applications is 1st March 2026. Please ensure you have applied before this date to be considered for the role.

Don’t meet every requirement of the role?

At Galliford Try, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every requirement of the role, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

As a Disability Confident employer, we have committed to offer an interview to any candidate with a long-term health condition or disability that meet the essential criteria for the advertised position.
