Job summary
Provide specialist nurse led Tuberculosis (TB) services Trust wide to minimise/reduce the impact of TB

Provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets.

The post holder will provide specialist nursing care and support and deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical speciality. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.

In particular, the post holder will provide specialist nursing care and support in the management of children with latent TB infection (LTBI) and active TB disease, and will deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical speciality.

To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research

Main duties of the job
Provide specialist nursing care and clinical leadership within the TB service, delivering evidence-based care to adults and children, including patients with TB/HIV co-infection. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, managing a caseload through nurse-led clinics, home visits and case management in line with national guidance.

Manage TB cases from diagnosis to completion of treatment, including contact tracing, screening programmes, outbreak investigations and liaison with UKHSA. Review laboratory and radiology results, undertake specialist assessments and provide advice to patients, carers, GPs and healthcare professionals.

Promote treatment adherence, support safe discharge planning, prevent avoidable admissions and ensure patients receive holistic, culturally sensitive care. Present cases at cohort reviews and contribute to service improvement, audit, governance and quality initiatives.

Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to complex case discussions and the sharing of best practice. Maintain accurate clinical records, manage risks and ensure compliance with Trust policies and professional standards.

Support community outreach by delivering TB awareness and education programmes, participating in screening initiatives and working with local authorities, schools and community organisations to improve access to TB prevention, screening and treatment services.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
  • Current UK NMC registration
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist courses up to Master's degree or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Independent nurse prescribing or willing to work towards within 12 months.
Desirable
  • Experiential training to demonstrate highly specialist clinical skills.
Knowledge and experience
Essential
  • Extensive post registration experience at Band 6 in TB/Infectious diseases.
  • Leadership and staff management experience at Band 6.
Desirable
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults and children including those experiencing homelessness, substance misuse, mental health and immigration problems.
