Job Description
The Role
The Finance Manager, Marketing provides financial planning, analysis, reporting and business partnering support to the Category Marketing and DBL Brand Marketing functions. The role works closely with marketing and finance stakeholders to ensure marketing investments are effectively planned, managed and monitored, while providing financial insight to support decision-making and budget discipline.
Responsible for providing financial governance, reporting and compliance oversight across Category and Brand Marketing expenditure, ensuring investments are managed in accordance with approved budgets, commercial priorities and financial control requirements.
The Finance Manager acts as a key finance contact for the Category and Brand Marketing teams in UK, US, China and India, providing analysis on spend, project performance and marketing investment effectiveness whilst driving continuous improvement in planning and reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Planning & Forecasting
- Coordinate annual planning, budgeting and forecasting activities across Category and Brand Marketing teams
- Ensure expenditure plans are appropriately prioritised and aligned to available budgets and strategic objectives
- Consolidate global marketing budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with business priorities.
- Monitor forecast accuracy and provide recommendations to improve planning assumptions.
- Support scenario modelling and ad-hoc analysis to assess the financial impact of changing business priorities.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Deliver timely, accurate and insightful reporting that supports management decision making and governance requirements.
- Identify and explain key variances, risks and opportunities to relevant stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of quarterly business reviews and management reporting packs.
- Maintain reporting dashboards and provide insight into financial performance and investment trends.
- Report marketing investment KPIs and support evaluation of marketing effectiveness and return on investment.
Business Partnering
- Act as a key finance partner to Category and Brand Marketing leadership teams, providing financial guidance on investment decisions, project delivery and resource allocation.
- Act as a key finance partner to the GRB team, providing ongoing support on marketing finance matters including guidance on allowable marketing expenditure, payment processes, cost allocations, and recharge mechanisms
- Challenge spending proposals where appropriate and ensure alignment to agreed priorities and budgets.
- Support project owners in understanding financial performance and delivery against plans.
- Develop strong working relationships across Category & Brand Marketing, Procurement and Finance teams.
- Champion sound financial stewardship of marketing budgets across the organisation.
Financial Governance & Controls
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets and investment frameworks, identifying risks, issues and opportunities.
- Maintain robust governance over marketing spend, ensuring compliance with finance policies, delegated authorities and relevant agreements.
- Own and maintain the monthly DBGSS recharge calculation process, ensuring all calculations are accurate, compliant with APA criteria and agreements, and shared with Group Tax and DBGSS Finance stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Manage month-end accruals, recharges, allocations and reconciliations.
- Maintain governance over marketing cost centres, WBS structures and reporting hierarchies.
- Support internal and external audits through maintenance of appropriate documentation and controls.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement in planning, reporting and financial governance processes.
- Support the ongoing development and optimisation of SAP, OneStream and other planning tools.
- Contribute to finance transformation initiatives including process simplification, systems enhancement, reporting automation and data improvement activities.
- Ensure high standards of data quality, consistency and accuracy across planning activities.
Team Leadership
- Provide guidance and support to Financial Analyst and junior team members where applicable.
- Share best practice across the wider finance team.
- Contribute to the development of finance capabilities and improved ways of working.
Qualifications
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience in FP&A, commercial finance or business partnering roles. Experience supporting senior stakeholders within a complex multinational environment desirable
- Ability to adapt to a fast-evolving corporate environment, and co-ordinate the resulting changes to processes, roles and responsibilities. Able to manage requirements from multiple stakeholders and co-ordinate work accordingly and autonomously.
- Familiar with global brand marketing operations and return on marketing investment methodologies. Experience of partnering with Tax and Legal functions to implement transfer pricing methodology and intragroup service level agreements.
- Demonstrated ability to interface successfully on multiple organisational levels. An excellent communicator and able to influence at senior level. Applies self-awareness and critical thinking to influence at the highest levels.
- Passion for luxury retail in a multinational context, with strong team leadership skills. Diligent with strong attention to detail. Able to prioritise tasks in a team context.
