This is a fantastic opportunity for a literacy advocate who is passionate about fostering a love for reading and developing essential research skills in students across all key stages.
The Role
You will be the heart of the school’s resource centre, managing a diverse collection of physical and digital assets. Key Responsibilities:
Library Management: Overseeing the acquisition, cataloguing, and maintenance of books, periodicals, and digital resources using the school’s Library Management System (LMS).
Promoting Literacy: Organizing book fairs, author visits, and reading challenges to inspire a lifelong reading culture among students.
Research Support: Assisting students and staff with finding high-quality academic sources, teaching effective search techniques, and advising on referencing/plagiarism.
Space Optimization: Maintaining a welcoming, quiet, and productive environment for independent study and collaborative learning.
Curriculum Liaison: Working with department heads to ensure the library collection supports the current GCSE and A-Level syllabi.
The School
This Ealing-based school prides itself on its academic excellence and holistic approach to student development. The library is a central hub of the campus, recently updated with modern study booths and integrated technology to support a 21st-century learning environment.
Why join this team?
Creative Freedom: Take the lead on designing library displays and curated reading lists that reflect the diverse interests of the student body.
Supportive Community: Work in an environment where the library is recognized as a vital component of the school’s academic success.
Prime Location: Situated in West London with excellent links via the Elizabeth Line and Ealing Broadway, offering an easy commute from central or outer London.
Professional Growth: Opportunities to collaborate with local Ealing libraries and attend national school library association conferences.
Requirements
Previous experience working in a library setting, preferably within a school or academic environment.
A degree in Library and Information Management or a related field (CILIP membership is highly desirable).
Strong ICT skills and proficiency in Library Management Systems (e.g., Accessit, Heritage, or Reading Cloud).
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage students of all reading abilities.
A proactive approach to organizing events and managing a busy resource centre.
An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one immediately).
