Sitting at the intersection of data science, commercial strategy, and research, you will play a key role in identifying new data opportunities, validating their value, and helping drive the development of innovative data products. Working with a range of commercial and investment–focused customers, they combine proprietary methodologies with diverse datasets to uncover meaningful trends and performance indicators.Their success is built on finding unique sources of information and transforming them into valuable insights. As they continue to grow, they are looking for a Director of Data Research to provide technical leadership, enhance research capabilities, and drive innovation across the function. The Role As Director of Data Research, you will lead the strategy, execution, and development of the Data Research team. You will work closely with stakeholders across data partnerships, technology, and leadership to evaluate new datasets and identify opportunities for new products and KPIs.Responsibilities include:

• Defining and executing the Data Research strategy in line with business objectives
• Leading research initiatives to identify new data sources, metrics, and commercial opportunities
• Evaluating new datasets and assessing their quality, reliability, and business value
• Applying statistical techniques including time series analysis, hypothesis testing, correlation analysis, and data validation
• Developing frameworks and standards for dataset evaluation and valuation
• Improving the speed, consistency, and quality of research delivery
• Managing and developing team members while fostering technical excellence
• Partnering with senior stakeholders to support data acquisition and investment decisions
• Driving innovation through the application of data science techniques and emerging technologies

Your Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in Data Research, Data Science, Statistics, or a closely related field
• Proven ability to lead complex research projects from hypothesis generation through to actionable recommendations
• Expertise in analysing large, complex, and imperfect datasets
• Strong statistical knowledge with experience validating data and assessing relationships between datasets and business outcomes
• Commercial awareness and the ability to evaluate the value of data investments
• Experience leading technical teams and setting high standards for research quality
• Proficiency in Python and the ability to review technical work effectively
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• Experience within alternative data, investment research, financial data, or similar environments would be beneficial
