Caretaker Role in a Thriving Primary Academy
A thriving and inclusive Primary Academy in Redbridge is seeking to appoint a reliable and proactive Caretaker to join its dedicated site team from September. About the Role
As Caretaker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the school remains a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. Working closely with the Site Manager and senior leadership team, you will oversee the day-to-day upkeep of the premises, carrying out routine maintenance, supporting health and safety compliance, and helping prepare the school for daily activities and special events.
No two days will be the same, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys practical problem-solving and takes pride in maintaining high standards.
Key Responsibilities
Open and secure the school site each day as required
Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks
Ensure the buildings and grounds remain clean, safe, and well presented
Complete regular health and safety inspections and report any issues
Monitor site security, alarms, and access arrangements
Prepare classrooms and communal areas for meetings and school events
Liaise with contractors and support planned maintenance projects
Help ensure compliance with health and safety, fire safety, and safeguarding procedures

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Previous experience in a caretaker, premises, facilities, or site maintenance role
Good practical maintenance and DIY skills
Knowledge of health and safety procedures within a school or similar environment
Ability to work independently and prioritise a varied workload
Excellent organisational and communication skills
A flexible, reliable, and proactive approach to work
Desirable
Experience working within a school or educational setting
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, or building maintenance
Health and Safety or COSHH training
Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within schools
