Department: Strategy

About Buttermilk

Buttermilk is a creative agency shaping the future of the creator economy. We deliver work that’s as culturally sharp as it is commercially impactful, partnering with the world’s most recognisable brands to drive real results and real connection.

We celebrate individuality, move with intent, and support ambitious growth without compromising wellbeing.

Our Values

  • Celebrate what makes us weird, with care for others

  • Build on intent, not impulse

  • Fail fast, learn faster

  • Be supported by systems, not limited by them

  • Be ambitious, pursue it healthily

Role Overview

You are the cultural connective tissue between insight and ideas - someone who lives in the niche corners of the internet where movements are born, not just the mainstream. You translate that knowledge into compelling creator strategies: unlocking the right talent, the right content approach, and the right cultural moment for each brand.

Key Responsibilities

Track 1: Culture & Campaign You're the person who always knows what's happening on the internet — right now, not last week. You anchor strategy to creative execution across influencer, social, and experiential work, and keep the team fed with real-time cultural intelligence creating playbooks, internal and external newsletters and trends relevant for our clients.

  • Continuously scan platforms, creators, and niche communities, feeding fresh intelligence into briefs, pitches, and campaign thinking

  • Ensure every campaign rollout is rooted in live cultural context, not planning-deck culture that's already moved on

  • Act as the team's early-warning system for shifts in beauty, wellness, fashion, and adjacent spaces

  • Bring insider fluency to creator selection and briefing across beauty and lifestyle verticals Confident client-facing presence, able to bring cultural insight to life in a room

Track 2: Creator Intelligence You're creator-obsessed in the most rigorous way, you understand the ecosystem beyond the big names. Emerging genres, audience behaviours, engagement shifts, the subtle signals that a creator has staying power before the numbers catch up. You've probably been a creator yourself, and that lived intelligence is what you bring. You craft creator archetypes and stratgy ad an understanding of content strategy of where these creators and formats best show up.

  • Lead proactive insight gathering on the creator economy: emerging genres, niche communities, platform evolution

  • Define creator archetypes and selection rationale that goes beyond demographics, aligning partnerships to a brand's world and storytelling arc

  • Build an always-on creator intelligence knowledge base the whole team can draw on

  • Work closely with Creator Services to ensure casting decisions are strategically grounded

  • Write creator briefs that feel authentic to a creator's voice while keeping brand requirements sharp

Core Competencies

Insight to Strategy

Take messy cultural observations, data points, and audience truths and shape them into a clear, inspiring strategic direction. Find the human insight at the heart of a brief and build strategies that feel inevitable once you hear them.

  • Conduct social landscape and cultural analysis to understand how people are behaving and why

  • Translate findings into creator strategies, articulating the human truth, creator lens, content direction, and casting rationale

  • Write content plans and creator briefs that are strategically sound and authentically worded

  • Set clear casting direction: defining the type, size, and flavour of creator required

Creative Collaboration

Strategy without great creative is just a document. You work shoulder-to-shoulder with creatives, designers, and account leads to make sure insight becomes ideas that are bold, culturally fluent, and executable.

  • Partner with the creative team on concept development, from early territory through to finished briefs

  • Champion work that genuinely earns its place in culture: interesting, specific, and surprising

  • Contribute actively to workshops and brainstorms with energy, rigour, and a fresh perspective

  • Hypothesise what content will deliver against the objective and ensure measurement is built in from the start

Client & Commercial

You're confident presenting your thinking and comfortable holding a room and able to take clients somewhere new and make the journey feel exciting, not uncertain.

  • Present strategy confidently, turning complex thinking into clear, inspiring narratives

  • Support development of campaign strategies, RTBs, and strategic recommendations

  • Collaborate with account management to stay anchored in client business objectives

  • Prepare post-campaign learnings that demonstrate genuine cultural and commercial impact

Success Metrics

  • Creator recommendations consistently convert and perform, with casting rationale that goes beyond numbers

  • Strategic outputs are clear, inspiring, and require minimal rework from brief through to delivery

  • Proactively feeding cultural and creator intelligence to the team

  • Campaigns earn genuine cultural traction, not just paid reach

  • Recognised as the go-to authority on beauty and creator culture within the agency

Required Experience & Skills

  • 2–4 years of strategy experience in a creative, influencer, or social agency with a genuine love for creator marketing is non-negotiable

  • Intuitive feel for the creator landscape, you can spot an interesting profile, a rising scene, or a cultural shift before it becomes obvious

  • Fluency across diverse scenes, communities, and brand verticals — equally at home in streetwear subcultures and luxury fragrance

  • Self-starter mentality. You bring ideas unprompted and likely already have a platform, project, or creative practice of your own

  • Strong analytical thinking moving fluidly between cultural observation and rigorous business reasoning

  • Excellent written and verbal communication. Your strategy writing inspires, and you present with conviction

  • Natural collaborator who brings positive energy and a genuine desire to make the work better

  • Comfortable juggling multiple clients and projects in a fast-paced creative environment

  • Proficient in Google Slides, Keynote, PPT; familiar with social listening and trend forecasting tools

  • Sharp, distinctive point of view — you have taste, you can defend it, and you know how to translate it into strategy
