Salary: Competitive

Contract Type: 6 months contract

Shape projects. Influence decisions. Own the commercial success of some of the UK's most exciting environmental and landscaping schemes.

At Ground Control, we're looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our Landscape, Design & Energy division on an initial 6-month Fixed Term Contract .

This is more than a traditional QS role. You'll be at the heart of a diverse portfolio of landscaping, environmental and public realm projects, partnering closely with operational teams to drive commercial performance, manage risk and maximise project success.

From large-scale vegetation management programmes and ecological enhancement schemes to public realm improvements, pond restoration and soft landscaping works, no two projects are the same. If you enjoy variety, autonomy and working across multiple live projects rather than being tied to a single scheme for years, this is an opportunity where you can genuinely make your mark.

The role is predominantly home-based, with occasional travel to sites, client meetings and Ground Control offices in Billericay, London or Shifnal, giving you the flexibility to balance collaboration with independent working.

What you'll do;
  • Take ownership of the commercial performance of multiple projects , managing valuations, CVRs, forecasting, cost control and financial reporting from project start through to completion.

  • Become a trusted commercial partner to operational teams , providing guidance, challenge and support to ensure projects remain profitable and commercially robust.

  • Lead the administration of NEC and JCT contracts , confidently managing Early Warning Notices, Compensation Events, contractual correspondence and compliance requirements.

  • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks , protecting Ground Control's position while helping project teams uncover opportunities for growth and improvement.

  • Drive value recovery through effective variation management , ensuring changes are identified, priced and agreed efficiently.

  • Review forecasts, interrogate costs and challenge assumptions , helping project teams make informed decisions and maximise project performance.

  • Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders , confidently managing commercial discussions and navigating complex contractual environments.

  • Support the delivery of a wide variety of projects , including planting, turfing, wildflower seeding, vegetation management, ecological enhancements, woodland works, pond construction and public realm schemes.

  • Manage multiple live projects simultaneously , balancing priorities and delivering commercial excellence across a fast-moving portfolio.

What you'll get;
  • A predominantly remote role with flexibility and autonomy

  • The opportunity to work on a diverse and growing portfolio of environmental, landscaping and infrastructure-related projects

  • Exposure to projects valued up to to £2m+

  • The chance to work alongside experienced commercial and operational professionals

  • Real ownership of your projects and the ability to influence commercial outcomes

  • A collaborative and supportive team environment where your ideas and expertise are valued

  • Structured onboarding and support to help you succeed

  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities through GC University

  • Potential opportunities beyond the initial fixed-term contract as the business continues to grow

What we're looking for;
  • Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a contractor or subcontractor environment

  • Strong hands-on experience administering NEC and JCT contracts, including Compensation Events, Early Warning Notices and contractual correspondence

  • Experience managing valuations, CVRs, forecasting, variations, cost reporting and commercial controls

  • Someone who enjoys working across multiple concurrent projects and thrives in a fast-paced environment

  • A confident communicator who is comfortable challenging clients, operational teams and stakeholders when required

  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to make sound decisions that protect and enhance project performance

  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing demands effectively

  • The ability to work independently, take ownership and hit the ground running with minimal supervision

  • Experience within landscaping, environmental contracting, external works, groundworks, civils or similar sectors would be highly advantageous

  • Estimating experience and familiarity with software such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD and Excel would be beneficial

  • Experience producing take-offs and measuring works from drawings would be highly desirable

  • A proactive, resilient and commercially minded approach with a genuine desire to add value

  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites and meetings when required

Why Ground Control?

At Ground Control, we're committed to creating and maintaining sustainable environments that benefit communities, businesses and the natural world. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team where you'll have the freedom to make decisions, take ownership of your work and contribute to projects that leave a lasting impact across the UK.

If you're a driven Quantity Surveyor looking for your next challenge and want to work on varied, meaningful projects where your expertise genuinely makes a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
