EYFS SEN Teaching Assistant - Hackney, North London

Job Description
A vibrant and creative primary school in Hackney is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled EYFS SEN Teaching Assistant to join their Reception team. The role involves supporting children who present with a range of additional needs including social communication difficulties, sensory processing challenges, and early literacy delays.
You will run daily communication-focused interventions, support structured play tasks, implement sensory strategies to help with regulation, and work 1:1 with specific pupils who require consistent adult support. The school follows a child-led, play-based learning approach and places a strong emphasis on emotional development, early language acquisition, and inclusive practice.
You will collaborate closely with the class teacher, parents, SENCO, and visiting Speech and Language Therapists to deliver tailored activities that help children build confidence, independence, and essential early learning skills. The school is known for its strong behaviour ethos, excellent support for staff, and ongoing training opportunities.
Key Skills
Strong understanding of early communication development
Ability to implement sensory and regulation strategies
Patience, empathy, and a warm classroom presence
Skilled in modelling language and building social interaction
Good organisation for recording pupil progress and behaviour
Requirements
Minimum 6 months’ EYFS or SEN experience
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
Good spoken and written English
Knowledge of EYFS curriculum
Passion for working with young children with additional needs
