The Role
The school is seeking an enthusiastic, technically skilled and organised Performing Arts Technician to support the work of the performing arts department.
This role is essential in ensuring that the department’s facilities, equipment, and productions operate smoothly and safely. The technician will support drama, dance, and music performances by managing lighting, sound, staging, and technical equipment.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to prepare resources for lessons, rehearsals, and productions, while also supporting students in developing their technical understanding of theatre production.
This role would suit someone with a passion for theatre, performance, or live production who enjoys working in a dynamic and creative educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing technical equipment for performing arts lessons, rehearsals, and productions
Operating lighting and sound equipment during performances and events
Maintaining theatre equipment including lighting rigs, microphones, speakers, and staging
Supporting the safe use and storage of technical equipment
Assisting teachers and students with technical aspects of productions
Managing rehearsal schedules and technical set-ups for performances
Supporting school productions, concerts, assemblies, and other events
Ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures when using technical equipment
Managing stock and maintenance of technical resources
Supporting extracurricular performing arts activities and clubs
Performing Arts Department

Person Specification
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Knowledge of theatre lighting, sound systems, or stage production
Experience operating technical equipment in performance environments
Strong organisational and time management skills
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students
Confidence supporting events and productions
Understanding of health and safety procedures related to technical equipment
A proactive approach to maintaining and organising resources
Experience working in theatre production, performing arts venues, or technical stage support would be highly beneficial.
