Sales Director, Corporate, Government and Health

Sage
London

Sales Director, Global Corporate, Government and Health – Permanent - £95,000 - £110,000

Join us and be part of a mission-driven, independent publisher. You’ll work with a diverse group of people who share a passion for empowering researchers, educators, and institutions to shape the future.

About Sage:

Sage is a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources with a growing range of technologies to enable discovery, access, and engagement. Believing that research and education are critical in shaping society, Sara Miller McCune founded Sage in 1965. Today, we are controlled by a group of trustees charged with maintaining our independence and mission indefinitely.

Our guaranteed independence means we’re free to:

  • Do more – supporting an equitable academic future, furthering disciplines that drive social change, and helping social and behavioural science make an impact

  • Work together – building lasting relationships, championing diverse perspectives, and co-creating resources to transform teaching and learning

  • Think long-term – experimenting, taking risks, and investing in new ideas

About our Team:

You’ll be leading Sage’s global Corporate Sales team at a pivotal moment of growth and innovation. This small but highly supported team partners closely with academic and corporate customers, product leaders, editorial colleagues, and specialist AI/licensing experts to bring Sage and Liebert’s world‑class research content to new and emerging markets. Working alongside our Chief Commercial Officer and senior leaders across Product, Editorial, Pricing, Finance, Marketing, Legal, and Operations, you’ll help shape how Sage expands into corporate, government, and healthcare environments. This is a collaborative, outward‑facing team that thrives on insight, partnership, and building scalable, sustainable commercial models for the future.

Could you be our new Sales Director? Are you?

  • Experienced in senior sales leadership within STM publishing, healthcare information, research platforms, or enterprise knowledge solutions?

  • Someone with strong commercial networks across pharma, biotech, and corporate R&D with a track record of converting those relationships into enterprise‑level deals?

  • Experienced in selling complex, high‑value solutions into multi‑stakeholder environments including hospitals, AMCs, research institutes, and corporate R&D with deep fluency in enterprise procurement and executive engagement?

  • An expert negotiator with a strong record of closing high‑value, multi‑year, multi‑site enterprise agreements, including non‑standard, high‑complexity, or data/AI‑driven contracts?

  • Deeply knowledgeable about corporate subscription models, including collections, multisite licensing, and value‑based renewals?

  • Experienced in working with diverse content types (e.g., journals, collections, data‑rich assets) and integrating them into compelling enterprise value propositions for corporate and R&D customers?

  • Proven people leader with experience building, coaching, and scaling specialist sales teams globally to deliver high performance?

  • Commercially astute, data‑driven, and confident operating with senior executives and procurement leaders, and cross‑functional teams to shape enterprise commercial strategy?

  • Confident collaborating with data, AI, and licensing teams, including work with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and advanced content technologies to deliver complex or bespoke enterprise solutions?

Your new role:

This is a brand‑new leadership role in a brand‑new market, an opportunity to build, grow, and elevate a dedicated global corporate revenue stream for Sage. You will develop and drive the strategy and execution that takes our existing corporate efforts to an entirely new level.

You’ll lead and grow a specialist global team, own our most complex and high‑value opportunities, and shape how Sage monetises content and research solutions across corporate, government, and healthcare sectors. Your work will directly influence how Sage positions itself in advanced use cases, including Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), enterprise licensing, and emerging AI‑driven models.

  • Lead global corporate revenue growth by expanding Sage’s presence across hospitals, AMCs, research institutes, pharma, biotech, and corporate R&D organisations.

  • Drive strategic engagement with federal government agencies and research bodies to unlock long‑term commercial opportunities.

  • Translate global strategy into clear, actionable annual plans, including segmentation, ideal customer profiles, target accounts, and revenue priorities.

  • Provide deep market insight to shape commercial decisions, product direction, and portfolio strategy across Research Sales.

  • Own and close the largest, most complex enterprise opportunities, including multi‑site and global agreements.

  • Lead high‑stakes enterprise negotiations that deliver sustainable, commercially sound agreements with long‑term impact.

  • Develop, coach, and empower a high‑performing global specialist sales team, fostering consultative selling, enterprise negotiation, and value‑based renewal excellence.

  • Build and nurture senior‑level relationships across library leadership, research leadership, procurement, clinical education, R&D, and knowledge management.
