Safety Excellence Project Manager
About the role
We have a new opportunity for an experienced project management professional to join our team as Safety Excellence Project Manager. This is a critical role within DS Smiths multi-year Safety Excellence programmea cultural transformation initiative focused on elevating how we work safely every day at every level.
As Project Manager you will lead the delivery of defined project objectives and ensure benefits are achieved in line with DS Smiths strategic goals and Delivery Framework. You will be responsible for implementing governance and assurance monitoring progress managing risks and issues and providing clear visibility of project status and health. This role will also embed standardised processes templates and tools to enable effective and efficient delivery while developing capability in project management within the team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define the project scope outputs and outcomes; maintain an up-to-date project plan; and implement governance frameworks
- Manage execution according to the implementation plan; monitor progress; identify and resolve risks; and ensure delivery on time within budget and to quality standards
- Track and report deliverables monthly and quarterly; analyse data to derive insights; and use tools such as PowerBI to monitor training and engagement metrics
- Ensure benefits are delivered against the business case and report progress to stakeholders
- Embed DS Smith Delivery Framework principles; facilitate reviews; and support capability development through lessons learned and best practice sharing
- Manage budgets and monitor costs against benefits
- Work closely with Programme Lead and Transformation Learning & Communications Lead; engage stakeholders; and ensure smooth handover to the business
- Promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement across the project team and wider organisation
About you
- Demonstrable experience in project management within a complex global organisation ideally with exposure to cultural transformation or safety initiatives
- Strong knowledge of project governance risk management and benefits realization
- Proven ability to manage large-scale projects across multiple countries and stakeholders
- Excellent analytical skills with experience using data tools (e.g. PowerBI) to track performance and inform decision-making
- Highly organised proactive and resilient with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to lead and influence teams drive collaboration and embed best practices
Location: This is a hybrid role split between the office in London Paddington (3 days in office) and home (2 days).
