Pupil Attendance & Engagement Officer
Pay: Paid to scale (Inner/Outer/Fringe London). This may be a permanent salary or a daily rate equivalent to scale.
Start Date: January 2026 Contract: Long-term with potential to go permanent
Empowering Learning are recruiting a Pupil Attendance & Engagement Officer for a secondary school in East London . This key role supports whole-school attendance, punctuality, welfare and safeguarding, ensuring students are consistently engaging with learning and achieving strong progression.
You'll work closely with pastoral teams, Heads of Year and external agencies to monitor attendance, follow up concerns, meet with families and implement strategies that keep students in lessons and engaged with their curriculum.
Strong communication, behaviour management, resilience and accurate record-keeping are essential. Schools are particularly keen on candidates with experience in attendance, safeguarding, pastoral support or SEMH environments.

Key responsibilities:
Monitor daily attendance and punctuality across the school
Make first-day calls and follow up attendance concerns
Work with students who require support with engagement, SEMH needs or behaviour routines
Conduct meetings with parents and carers
Produce reports, maintain accurate records and support safeguarding procedures
Implement whole-school strategies to improve attendance and pupil progress
What the school are looking for:
Experience in attendance, behaviour, pastoral, safeguarding or SEMH
Strong behaviour management and confident communication
Ability to build rapport with students and families
Calm, organised and able to work within clear systems
Understanding of the link between attendance, progression and curriculum engagement
