Academic Director - Learning & Teaching

Global University Systems (GUS)
London
Shape the future of learning. Inspire excellence. Lead with impact.

At the London College of Contemporary Arts (LCCA), we empower students to transform their lives through career-focused, industry-engaged education across the creative, business and hospitality sectors. As part of a global education group, we are a fast-growing, ambitious institution where academic staff, industry practitioners and students collaborate in a dynamic, real-world learning environment.

We are now seeking an exceptional Academic Director – Learning & Teaching to lead academic excellence across the College and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our educational offer.

The Opportunity

This is a senior leadership role with institution-wide impact. As Academic Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for learning, teaching and assessment, ensuring an outstanding academic experience for all students.

You will champion a student-centred, inclusive approach, supporting a diverse student body—including widening participation and mature learners—to succeed and thrive. Working closely with the Executive Dean, Deans and academic teams, you will drive innovation in pedagogy, embed best practice, and ensure the College meets and exceeds regulatory expectations.

You will also contribute to key institutional priorities, including OfS registration, progress toward Taught Degree Awarding Powers (TDAP), and the continued growth and evolution of our academic portfolio.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Leading and enhancing teaching, learning and assessment across the College

  • Driving academic quality and ensuring compliance with regulatory and awarding body requirements

  • Supporting, developing and inspiring academic staff, including Adjunct Faculty

  • Embedding innovative, inclusive and industry-engaged teaching practices

  • Leading the adoption of new educational technologies and pedagogical approaches

  • Partnering with senior academic leaders on curriculum development and academic strategy

  • Enhancing the student experience across the full lifecycle, from enrolment to alumni

  • Building a strong academic community that promotes collaboration, scholarship and continuous improvement

  • Supporting institutional growth and key strategic milestones

What We’re Looking For

You are an experienced and inspiring academic leader with a passion for teaching excellence and student success.

You will bring:
  • A postgraduate qualification (or higher) in a relevant discipline or higher education

  • Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), with Senior Fellowship (SFHEA) desirable

  • Significant experience enhancing teaching quality and assessment in higher education

  • A strong track record of leading and developing academic teams

  • Experience building capability in diverse or growing academic staff groups

  • A strong understanding of UK higher education quality frameworks, including OfS requirements

  • The ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on operational delivery

And just as importantly, you are:
  • Student-centred, with a commitment to inclusive and engaging teaching practices

  • A confident communicator who can influence and build strong relationships

  • Energised, resilient and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

  • Passionate about innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement

Why Join LCCA?
  • Be part of a growing, forward-thinking institution shaping modern higher education

  • Work in a collaborative environment where academics, practitioners and students learn from each other

  • Influence meaningful change in teaching quality and student outcomes

  • Play a key role in an exciting phase of institutional development and growth

  • Help prepare students for impactful careers in fast-changing global industries
