Lead Innovation: Head of Design & Technology Role in Lambeth!

We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Head of Design & Technology (D&T) to lead a dynamic and well-resourced department at a progressive secondary school in the vibrant borough of Lambeth . This is a pivotal leadership role for an educator committed to driving creativity, practical skills, and academic success across all D&T disciplines.

The Vitals: What You'll Be Leading

As Head of Department, you will be responsible for the strategic direction, management, and continuous improvement of D&T education from Key Stage 3 through to A-Level.

Key Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Vision: Develop and implement an inspiring vision for the D&T curriculum, encompassing traditional skills (e.g., resistant materials, textiles) and modern technologies (e.g., CAD/CAM, 3D printing).
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and performance-manage a team of D&T teachers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and innovative departmental culture.
  • Curriculum & Attainment: Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of all D&T qualifications (including GCSE and A-Level), analyzing data to ensure outstanding student outcomes and participation.
  • Resource & Safety Management: Manage the departmental budget, ensuring effective use of resources, procurement of new equipment, and strict adherence to all Health and Safety regulations within the workshops.
  • Whole-School Impact: Promote the value of D&T across the school, developing cross-curricular links and contributing to the school's strategic leadership team.

Candidate Profile: What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be an experienced teacher and leader with a proven track record of innovation and excellence in Design & Technology.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualification: A degree in Design & Technology , Product Design, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a PGCE.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven, successful experience as a Head of Department, Second in Department, or key curriculum leader within D&T at the secondary level.
  • Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of workshop machinery, CAD/CAM systems , and a commitment to safety and modern technical practices.
  • Skills: Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication, and resource management skills.
