THE ROLE
The integrity of the carbon projects we work with are at the heart of our role as a trusted partner for both clients and project partners, and this role plays a critical part in upholding that integrity.
Reporting to the Due Diligence Manager, you will work closely with colleagues across Sourcing and Technical (Project Development) to execute and continuously enhance our rigorous, consistent processes for project Due Diligence (DD) and risk assessment. You will stay abreast of regulatory, methodological, and market developments across the voluntary carbon market to help maintain Climate Impact Partners’ reputation for quality and credibility.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct technical screenings and due diligence assessments for a diverse range of projects, including engineered and nature-based solutions.
- Evaluate projects against key quality criteria, including:
- Core carbon criteria (additionality, baselines, permanence, leakage, etc.)
- Project implementation and on-the-ground feasibility
- Environmental, social, and SDG integrity and co-benefits
- MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, & Verification) and data quality
- Support the definition and application of quality criteria across the DD team, contributing to process consistency and continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate DD data and documentation; support DD pipeline tracking and reporting.
- Engage with ratings agencies and external partners to inform and strengthen project evaluations.
- Monitor changes in voluntary carbon standards and methodologies and contribute insights to Climate Impact Partners’ risk management approach.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- A few years of experience within the voluntary carbon market, with direct involvement in technical assessment or due diligence of carbon projects.
- The ideal candidate will have experience in primarily engineered carbon solutions (e.g. ERW, BECCS, DAC, etc.), with knowledge of nature-based and improved household technology solutions being desirable.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, biological/environmental science, sustainability, or related discipline.
- Experience reviewing Project Design Documents is desirable, along with reviewing monitoring reports for leading standards (e.g., Isometric, Puro.Earth, CSI, VCS/CCB, Gold Standard, Climate Action Reserve, ACR, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of key elements of project quality factors, including additionality, baselines, permanence, leakage, land and carbon rights, jurisdictional risks, and environmental and social impacts.
- Familiarity with relevant data sources and analytical tools that support project evaluation.
- Experience with GIS mapping tools is highly desirable.
