Clinical Coordinator & Clinical Governance Lead - ENT...

Welbeck
London

About the department

Our ENT and Maxillofacial service delivers specialist outpatient care, diagnostics, treatments, and minor procedures in a modern, consultant-led environment. Supporting some of the UK’s leading ENT Surgeons and Maxillofacial Consultants, the service is focused on providing patients with exceptional clinical outcomes and a seamless, reassuring experience from first appointment through to treatment and follow-up.

Working closely with consultants, nursing teams, patient administration colleagues, and multidisciplinary partners, the department combines clinical excellence with a strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Patient-centred care, effective coordination, and high governance standards underpin everything we do.

About the role

As a Clinical Coordinator & Clinical Governance Lead, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of ENT and Maxillofacial services. Acting as the senior nurse on duty within the department, you will provide day-to-day clinical leadership while ensuring exceptional standards of patient care, clinical governance, and operational performance.

Working closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager, consultants, and multidisciplinary colleagues, you will coordinate daily clinical operations, oversee patient flow, and support the delivery of outpatient consultations, diagnostic services, treatments, and minor procedures. You will act as a key point of contact for both patients and staff, helping to create a calm, organised, and responsive clinical environment.

Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you will lead governance and quality initiatives across the service. This includes coordinating audits, supporting quality improvement projects, maintaining risk registers, investigating incidents and complaints, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards.

You will also provide supervision, guidance, and development support to nursing and healthcare support staff, promoting a positive culture of learning, accountability, and patient safety.

This role is ideal for an experienced Registered Nurse who enjoys combining hands-on patient care with leadership, operational coordination, and clinical governance responsibilities within a specialist outpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the senior nurse on duty, coordinating daily clinical and operational activities

  • Ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred delivery of ENT and Maxillofacial services

  • Oversee patient flow through clinics, diagnostics, treatments, and minor procedures

  • Provide direct clinical support during consultations, specialist clinics, and procedures

  • Lead daily team huddles, staffing coordination, and departmental readiness checks

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold information governance standards

  • Lead clinical governance, risk management, quality assurance, and patient safety initiatives

  • Coordinate audits, service evaluations, and continuous quality improvement activities

  • Maintain departmental risk registers and support incident and complaint investigations

  • Ensure compliance with CQC requirements, regulatory standards, and organisational policies

  • Support the development and review of clinical policies, pathways, and standard operating procedures

  • Supervise and mentor nursing and healthcare support staff

  • Monitor training compliance, competency requirements, and professional registrations

  • Promote a positive safety culture and encourage continuous learning and improvement

  • Work collaboratively with consultants, operational teams, and senior leaders to optimise service delivery and patient outcomes

About you

You are an experienced Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and a passion for delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. You have experience working within outpatient, ambulatory, surgical, ENT, head and neck, or other specialist clinical services and are confident coordinating clinical activity within a busy healthcare environment.

You are an organised and proactive leader who communicates effectively with patients, colleagues, and consultants. Comfortable balancing clinical responsibilities with operational oversight, you are able to prioritise competing demands, make sound decisions, and maintain exceptional standards of care and governance.

You have a strong understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety principles, together with a commitment to continuous service improvement. You enjoy supporting and developing colleagues and take pride in fostering a positive, collaborative team culture.

Experience within ENT, Maxillofacial, Head & Neck, Plastic Surgery, or other specialist outpatient services would be advantageous, as would an Immediate Life Support (ILS) qualification and additional specialist training.

Most importantly, you are committed to clinical excellence, patient safety, and delivering an outstanding patient experience while contributing to the ongoing growth and success of a leading specialist healthcare service.
