Band 5 Pharmacy Dispensary Technician
The postholder will work closely with the Deputy Dispensary Manager and Dispensary Manager to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality dispensing services. They will act as a point of contact for rotational staff and students, contribute to audits and service improvement initiatives, and enhance the supervision and training capacity within the team.
Key Duties:
- Provide supervision, guidance, and mentorship to junior staff and students.
- Support the induction and training of new dispensary staff.
- Contribute to the development of a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Participate in dispensary audits and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
- Assist in the monitoring and reporting of dispensing errors and near misses.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and patient safety.
- Support the development and implementation of procurement policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols.
- Liaise effectively with pharmacy colleagues, clinical teams, and other departments to support patient care.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.
- Escalate issues appropriately to senior staff.
- Maintain registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) activities in line with role requirements.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and performance reviews.
- Undertake Accredited Checking Technician activity in the dispensary on a regular basis in order to support the department and maintain own competence.
- Provide input into ad hoc projects and initiatives as required by the department.
- Support quality initiatives that enhance patient experience and improve collaboration between pharmacy, clinical teams, and other departments.
- Participate in the annual stock take and contribute to inventory accuracy.
- Be flexible and work outside core hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade or as directed by the Chief Pharmacist.
