Physiotherapist

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, caring and innovative musculoskeletal or sports physiotherapist to support our medical team and Games/PE department.

The successful candidate will report to the lead medical practitioner, working closely with the director of sport and other staff working in the medical room and Games/PE department.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing pitch side support, including first aid, head injury and musculoskeletal assessment, for school sports teams as required, including training sessions, midweek fixtures and Saturday fixtures. This includes supporting the needs of the 1st XV Rugby team.
  • Supporting the recovery of pupils via a regular head injury and musculoskeletal clinic
  • Running a regular clinic to provide musculoskeletal appointments, support for strength and conditioning provision, and relevant advice and mentoring to sports scholars and gifted and talented pupils in sport
  • Making appropriate and full records in a timely manner, and communicating effectively with all stakeholders to ensure appropriate information sharing
  • Gathering informed consent for assessment and treatment
  • Formulating and delivering individual treatment programmes for pupils based upon evidence-based practice, physical assessment, and appropriate clinical reasoning
  • Having full regard at all times to the school’s medical, Games/PE and other policies and procedures, and other relevant guidance
  • Recording decisions and clinical notes using appropriate school systems
  • Undertaking any other reasonable task as directed by the lead medical practitioner and/or the director of sport

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a currently registered physiotherapist, a member of the Health & Care Professions Council and member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists
  • Have experience of working in a school
  • Have a strong understanding of sports injuries, particularly those regularly seen in adolescents and children
  • Have experience of pitch side cover
  • Have experience of contact sport
  • Hold a current first aid certificate (HSE recognised)
  • Have experience of concussion assessment in sport and extensive knowledge of the protocols outlined in “UK Concussion Guidelines for Non-Elite (Grassroots) Sport”
  • Hold or be willing to complete England Rugby’s PHICIS-RFU’s pre-hospital immediate care in Sport Level 2 qualification
  • Have professional and legal accountability to the Health & Care Professions Council and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) ‘Standards of Practice, Health Professions Council Standards of Proficiency, Conduct, Performance and Ethics’ and tort law in all aspects of practice
  • Have a personable and professional manner with a strong work ethic and good attention to detail
  • Have the ability to build strong working relationships at a variety of levels
  • Be eager to develop and maintain personal, service and professional standards at the highest attainable levels through continuing professional development
  • Be a confident, assured communicator at all levels
  • Be a good team player and able to work collaboratively
  • Be empathetic, kind and an excellent listener
  • Be comfortable working in a busy, reactive environment, remaining calm under pressure
  • Be able to demonstrate good IT skills, with a working knowledge of spreadsheets and database systems

Working hours:

  • 808 hours across 34 weeks per year (term-time)
  • It is anticipated that the hours will be as follows Tuesdays and Thursdays: 1600 to 1900 (204 hours, over 34 weeks)
  • Wednesdays: 0700 to 1900, with half an hour unpaid lunchbreak (391 hours, over 34 weeks)
  • Saturdays: 0900 to 1500, autumn and spring terms only (138 hours, over 23 weeks)
  • The above set work pattern constitutes 733 hours, the remaining 75 hours will be used for overrunning away fixtures, unscheduled cup matches, administration and follow up and attendance at all INSET days.
