Year 1 Teacher - Lambeth, London

Marchant Recruitment
London

Full-Time | Permanent | MPS/UPS (Dependent on Experience)
Start Date: ASAP

An Opportunity to Shape Early Learning in Key Stage 1

We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic, and nurturing Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming primary school in the vibrant borough of Lambeth, starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for a teacher who understands the importance of a smooth transition from Early Years into Key Stage 1 and is passionate about creating engaging, supportive, and structured learning experiences for young children.

Year 1 is a crucial stage in a child’s education. It is where early curiosity is channelled into more formal learning, where independence begins to develop, and where strong foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics are established. We are looking for a teacher who embraces this challenge and is motivated to make a meaningful impact during this formative year.

Our School and Community

Our school is a diverse, inclusive, and community-focused primary school located in Lambeth. We celebrate diversity and pride ourselves on creating an environment where every child feels valued, respected, and supported to succeed. Our pupils come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring enthusiasm, curiosity, and individuality into the classroom every day.

Staff at our school work collaboratively and support one another through shared planning, reflective practice, and open communication. Leadership is approachable and committed to staff development, wellbeing, and professional growth. We believe that when staff feel supported and valued, they are best placed to deliver high-quality education for our pupils.

Parents and carers are seen as key partners in learning, and strong relationships with families are actively encouraged and nurtured.

What the Role Involves

As a Year 1 Teacher, you will take responsibility for the academic, social, and emotional development of your class. You will plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet the needs of all learners while supporting children as they adapt to the expectations of Key Stage 1.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering a broad and balanced curriculum in line with the National Curriculum

  • Supporting pupils’ transition from Reception into Year 1 with sensitivity and structure

  • Delivering high-quality phonics, early reading, writing, and mathematics teaching

  • Using assessment to track progress, identify gaps, and plan targeted next steps

  • Differentiating learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND and EAL

  • Creating a positive, calm, and inclusive classroom environment

  • Promoting positive behaviour, routines, and independence

  • Working closely with teaching assistants and support staff to maximise pupil outcomes

  • Communicating effectively with parents and carers to support learning at home

  • Participating fully in staff meetings, training, and wider school initiatives

This role requires a teacher who is organised, reflective, and adaptable, with a strong understanding of how young children learn.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a Year 1 Teacher who brings enthusiasm, patience, and professionalism to the role. The successful candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Have experience teaching in Early Years or Key Stage 1 (Year 1 experience desirable but not essential)

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of early literacy, phonics, and numeracy

  • Have high expectations for pupil achievement and behaviour

  • Be confident in managing the transition from play-based to more structured learning

  • Show a strong commitment to inclusion, equality, and safeguarding

  • Be an effective communicator and a collaborative team member

  • Be willing to contribute positively to the wider life of the school

Early Career Teachers are welcome to apply and will receive structured mentoring and support.

What We Offer You

We understand the importance of supporting staff and creating an environment where teachers can thrive. In return for your dedication and commitment, we offer:

  • A supportive, friendly, and inclusive staff team

  • Motivated pupils who are eager to learn and respond well to positive teaching

  • Strong leadership with a clear vision and open communication

  • High-quality professional development and training opportunities

  • Well-resourced classrooms and access to effective teaching materials

  • A school culture that values wellbeing, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Why Lambeth?

Lambeth is a vibrant and culturally rich borough of London, offering excellent transport links, local amenities, and a strong sense of community. Working in Lambeth provides access to a dynamic educational environment and opportunities to engage with diverse communities and experiences.

How to Apply

To apply for this role, please forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, outlining your qualifications, experience, and suitability for the position.

Start Date: ASAP

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Why This Role Matters

As a Year 1 Teacher, you will play a key role in shaping children’s attitudes towards learning. Your influence will help build confidence, resilience, and curiosity that pupils will carry throughout their education. This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference in a supportive and forward-thinking school.

If you are a caring, motivated, and dedicated teacher ready to take on this rewarding challenge in Lambeth, we would love to hear from you.
