Inclusive SEN Teaching Assistant Role in West Ealing – Making Learning Accessible for All

A progressive and inclusive school in West Ealing , within the London Borough of Ealing, is seeking a proactive and compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join its committed support team. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to work closely with pupils who need additional guidance to access learning, regulate emotions, and develop the confidence required to succeed both academically and socially.

West Ealing is a dynamic and evolving area, and local schools reflect this through a strong focus on inclusion, equality, and personalised support. As an SEN Teaching Assistant in this setting, you will be part of a team that believes every child can make progress when given the right support, structure, and encouragement.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant in West Ealing, you will support pupils with a wide range of special educational needs. These may include Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), speech and language difficulties, sensory processing challenges, and general learning delays.

You may be working one-to-one with a pupil who has an EHCP , supporting small intervention groups , or providing in-class support to ensure pupils remain engaged and included during lessons. Your role will involve supporting learning, managing emotional and behavioural needs, and helping pupils develop independence over time.

This is a hands-on role that requires adaptability, empathy, and strong communication skills. You will be a consistent and trusted adult for pupils who may struggle with routine changes, social interactions, or emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualised support to pupils with SEN across the school day

  • Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs, support plans, and behaviour plans

  • Support pupils with attention, communication, and task engagement

  • Assist with emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies

  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs

  • Encourage positive social interaction and peer relationships

  • Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff

  • Monitor progress and contribute to review meetings and reports

Some roles may include personal care or physical support, depending on pupil needs. All such responsibilities will be fully explained, and appropriate training will be provided.

  • Patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient

  • Passionate about inclusive education and child wellbeing

  • Confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour

  • Strong communicators who work well as part of a team

  • Reflective and committed to continuous learning

Previous experience working with children with SEN is highly desirable, but not essential. Schools welcome applications from individuals with transferable experience from care work, youth services, mentoring, early years education, or community support roles.

Graduates with an interest in education, psychology, social work, or therapy-based careers will find this role particularly valuable for gaining practical, school-based experience.
