Caseworker

The role is to support the management of constituent enquiries by providing information, advice and support to constituents on a variety of constituency and policy issues.

Caseworkers play an important role in an MP's office, supporting the MP to ensure that constituents' concerns and questions are heard and addressed. You will be liaising with Government departments, local councils, the voluntary sector and a range of other bodies.

The position is full-time (37.5 hours a week). Preference is for the role to be based in the Westminster office or Carlisle constituency office, but Applications will be considered for remote working. Experience of managing enquiries and correspondence is essential. The applicant should demonstrate previous relevant experience when applying.

Key responsibilities

• Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required
• Draft responses to constituents
• Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP
• Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases
• Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
• Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation
• Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports
• Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally

Additional responsibilities

• Assisting with case set up and answering constituency telephone helpline. Attend relevant meetings as appropriate, either online or in person.
• Assist Parliamentary and constituency team with wide-ranging issues relevant to constituency
• Actioning the delivery of casework related special projects, liaising effectively across local and Westminster channels
