Family Liaison Officer Role in an Inclusive Secondary School

A caring and community-focused Secondary School in Lambeth is seeking to appoint a committed and compassionate Family Liaison Officer to join its pastoral and safeguarding team from September. This is a full-time role within a school that places strong emphasis on inclusion, student wellbeing, and effective partnerships with families.

The school is dedicated to removing barriers to learning and ensuring that all students and their families receive the support they need to thrive both academically and personally.

About the Role

As Family Liaison Officer, you will act as a key point of contact between the school and families, helping to build positive relationships that support attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, and safeguarding.

You will work closely with students, parents/carers, pastoral leaders, safeguarding staff, and external agencies to identify needs early and coordinate effective support. The role will involve providing practical guidance to families, supporting students facing barriers to learning, and promoting engagement between home and school.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with strong interpersonal skills, a calm and empathetic approach, and a genuine commitment to supporting young people and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a key link between the school and families

  • Build positive and supportive relationships with parents and carers

  • Support attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and student wellbeing initiatives

  • Work alongside safeguarding and pastoral teams to identify and respond to family needs

  • Signpost families to relevant support services and external agencies

  • Attend meetings, home visits, and multi-agency discussions where appropriate

  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of communication and interventions

  • Help remove barriers to learning and improve family engagement with the school

The School Environment

This Inclusive Secondary School in Lambeth provides a welcoming, diverse, and supportive environment where students are encouraged to achieve their full potential.

Pastoral care is a central part of the school's ethos, and the successful candidate will join a dedicated team committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and strong community relationships.

Staff are supported through regular training, collaborative working practices, and a leadership team that values the impact of pastoral and support roles across the school.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children, young people, or families in a school or community setting

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, attendance, and student wellbeing

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to work sensitively with families facing a range of challenges

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records

Desirable

  • Experience in a Family Liaison, Pastoral, Attendance, or Safeguarding role

  • Knowledge of local support services and multi-agency working

  • Experience conducting home visits or family meetings

  • Commitment to inclusion, early intervention, and pupil welfare

How to Apply

If you are interested in this Family Liaison Officer role in an Inclusive Secondary School in Lambeth starting in September, please submit your CV. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss the next stages of the recruitment process.
