PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600 - £37,600 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience + London Weighting. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Journalist (Producer) to play a key role in the daily production of BBC 4Tech, a weekly television magazine programme. In addition to your core responsibilities for the TV broadcast, you will contribute regularly to content creation for social media and BBC digital platforms.

A central aspect of your role involves producing television packages to ensure that the strongest journalism from BBC Arabic is effectively shared across platforms and within the wider BBC network. You will possess a deep understanding of current affairs in the technology sector, particularly within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Fluency in Arabic (as a first or equivalent language) and excellent spoken and written English are essential. You will have demonstrable experience in presenting and reporting for TV and digital platforms in formal Arabic, as well as the ability to conduct interviews with technology experts in English. You will be expected to generate and develop original programme ideas weekly, applying creativity, robust research skills, and strong connections within the technology field.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• Producing in house TV packages, segments and GFX to a high standard using modern production tools.
• Recording packages and soundbites in broadcast quality.
• Writing creative TV tech news in Arabic to the highest linguistic standards, free from grammar mistakes.
• Communicating effectively in English and translating pieces from English to Arabic and vice versa.
• Able to use modern technologies and verification tools whenever needed.
• Following the latest updates about technology industry globally and in the Middle East region.
• Find/suggest contributors and interviewees as well as other sources of material and/or actuality, as appropriate and to the required specification and with respect to diversity.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
  • Language excellence - Full command and up to date knowledge of spoken and written modern standard Arabic (as first or equivalent language) with fluency in English
  • Presentation skills - demonstrable experience in TV/Digital on screen presenting/reporting in formal Arabic language and ability to conduct interviews with technology experts fluently in English
  • Social media/ digital experience - Good recent practical knowledge in the role of social media and the best use for a programme like 4Tech.
  • Journalistic skills/ judgement - Considerable recent relevant experience as a programme producer with significant recent experience as a journalist. Excellent independent and balanced editorial judgement.
  • Experience of originating and developing creative programme ideas and of dealing with live, breaking stories.
