PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £110,000 - £135,000 plus £5441 London Weighting and up to 25% bonus, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE This role leads financial strategy for a £300m+ Unscripted portfolio, aligning commercial and editorial goals. The Director of Finance, Unscripted provides governance, performance oversight, and drives transformation through a high-performing team. - Lead strategic financial planning across Unscripted, aligning commercial success with creative ambition.
- Act as the senior finance partner to the MD and EVP, influencing high-level decisions and content strategy.
- Drive long-term financial strategy and performance improvement across the genre.
- Provide expert insight and challenge to the Unscripted Leadership Team, identifying opportunities and industry trends.
- Oversee finance workstreams for acquisitions and integrations, ensuring seamless execution.
- Champion innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in financial processes and reporting.
- Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary finance team, fostering talent and aligning with BBC-wide transformation goals.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:- Proven track record of providing strategic financial leadership in a complex, multi-genre unscripted media environment, with experience managing budgets in excess of £300 million.
- Experience leading geographically diverse finance team supporting a broad Unscripted business with significant experience of the Factual and UK Entertainment genres.
- Experience delivering effective financial systems, controls, and reporting which includes a track record of delivering continuous improvement across a team of 10+ finance professionals
- Demonstrated ability to influence editorial and commercial decision-making at board or executive level. Proven experience in reviewing and challenging a development slate, with the ability to provide constructive, editorially informed feedback that aligns with strategic objectives.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of the media sector, including the end-to-end production and distribution cycle.
- Experience managing significant budgets and understanding key financial drivers.
- Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Experience leading M&A activity within the media sector, including strategic evaluation, financial modelling, and post-deal integration across creative and operational teams.
- Strong understanding of the BBC’s regulatory and contractual obligations (or equivalent experience).
- Knowledge of digital/social media content production, distribution, and brand extension.
