HR Manager Role in an Outstanding Primary School
An Outstanding Primary School in Lambeth is seeking to appoint an experienced and strategic HR Manager to lead its people function. About the Role
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of all HR operations, ensuring that recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and workforce planning are delivered efficiently and in line with current employment legislation.
Working closely with the Headteacher, School Business Manager, and senior leadership team, you will provide expert HR advice, oversee safer recruitment processes, manage staff records, support organisational development, and contribute to strategic decision-making across the school.
This is a varied and rewarding leadership role suited to an experienced HR professional who enjoys building positive relationships and driving best practice.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the school's HR function
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and safer recruitment compliance
Provide advice on employee relations, policies, and employment legislation
Manage staff contracts, personnel records, and HR systems
Support performance management, appraisal, and professional development processes
Monitor staff absence, wellbeing initiatives, and workforce planning
Ensure compliance with safeguarding, GDPR, and employment legislation
Work closely with senior leaders to support strategic HR initiatives

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Previous experience in an HR Manager or senior HR advisory role
Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills
Experience managing recruitment and employee relations processes
Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
Desirable
CIPD Level 5 qualification or above
Experience working within a school or educational environment
Knowledge of safer recruitment and safeguarding requirements
Experience using HR information systems and school management software
