Economics Teacher | Newham
The Opportunity
Are you an economist who can navigate the complexities of global trade, analyze the nuances of market failure, and inspire the next generation of financial leaders and policy-makers?
We are seeking a sharp-minded and engaging Economics Teacher to join a high-performing Social Sciences department in Newham . Located in the heart of East London’s regeneration zone, just minutes from the global financial engines of Canary Wharf and the City, this school provides a premier setting for an Economics specialist. We are looking for an educator who can bridge the gap between classroom theory and the fast-moving reality of the modern global economy.
Core Responsibilities
Pedagogical Excellence: Planning and delivering sophisticated, data-rich lessons across KS4 and KS5 , with a primary focus on A-Level Economics (AQA/Edexcel).
Macro & Micro Mastery: Guiding students through the intricacies of supply and demand, market structures, fiscal and monetary policy, and the challenges of international development.
Analytical Leadership: Developing students' ability to evaluate complex economic models, interpret quantitative data, and construct high-level evaluative essays.
Curriculum Innovation: Integrating real-world case studies—from the local impact of the Olympic legacy to global inflationary trends—into the schemes of work.
Exam Mastery: Mentoring examination cohorts to secure top-tier results through rigorous practice of multiple-choice precision and extended response structuring.
Extracurricular Advocacy: Leading initiatives such as the "Bank of England Target Two Point Zero" challenge, investment clubs, and university bridge programmes for aspiring PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) students.
Why This School?
Newham’s Economic Frontier: Work in one of London’s most vibrant and rapidly developing boroughs, offering students a front-row seat to urban economics and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Collaborative Social Sciences Faculty: Join a forward-thinking team of specialists in Business, Politics, and Sociology, fostering a culture of academic rigor and interdisciplinary debate.
Professional Environment: Benefit from a school culture that treats Economics as a flagship subject, with dedicated Sixth Form study centres and premium access to global economic news and data tools.
Professional Growth: Access to specialist CPD in Econometrics , A-Level Marking , and clear pathways toward Head of Social Sciences or Director of Sixth Form roles.
Candidate Profile
Qualification: QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a strong honours degree in Economics or a closely related financial discipline.
Subject Knowledge: Exceptional theoretical knowledge and a passion for staying abreast of current global economic affairs.
Pedagogy: A proven track record of facilitating outstanding student progress at Key Stage 5 and the ability to make abstract concepts tangible for all learners.
Character: An articulate, resilient, and intellectually curious educator who can challenge high-ability students and foster a genuine passion for the "dismal science."
