Year 1 Teacher - Barnet
Shape Young Minds at the Start of Key Stage 1
We are seeking a passionate, nurturing, and dynamic Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming primary school in Barnet, starting as soon as possible. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to teach pupils at a crucial stage of their education, supporting the transition from Early Years Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1, and fostering a love of learning.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for a Year 1 class, delivering creative, engaging, and high-quality lessons across the curriculum. The school prioritises inclusion, high expectations, and the wellbeing of pupils, seeking a teacher who can inspire children academically, socially, and emotionally.
You will join a collaborative Key Stage 1 team where shared planning, reflective practice, and professional development are valued. Leadership provides guidance, support, and resources to help teachers succeed and grow professionally.
Role Overview
As a Year 1 Teacher, you will:
Plan and deliver structured, engaging lessons across the Year 1 curriculum
Use assessment to monitor pupil progress and inform future planning
Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and higher-attaining learners
Promote positive behaviour, independence, and resilience
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, colleagues, and senior leadership
Support pupils’ social and emotional development alongside academic growth
Communicate effectively with parents and carers
Participate in staff meetings, CPD, and school-wide initiatives

Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Have experience teaching Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1
Be confident in curriculum delivery and assessment practices
Possess excellent classroom management and organisational skills
Be creative, reflective, and adaptable
Demonstrate a nurturing and supportive approach
Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
