Product Front-End Engineer
The Company:
Stream was founded with the mission to provide fair financial tools to the everyday worker. Offered through destination employers like Greene King, Bupa, Burger King, Asda and the NHS, our award-winning platform helps over three million people to earn, learn, save, spend and borrow on their own terms, all in one smartphone app.
Stream is unique: VC backed and growing at scale, but with a social conscience. Some of the world's leading impact funds were our founding investors, and we operate on a social charter, which means every product and service we create must measurably improve financial wellbeing.
You’d be joining a team of over 200 passionate, ambitious people across Europe and the USA, building a category-defining product, and united by that same mission.
The Opportunity:
The US squad functions much like a startup within a startup. We are a small, self-sufficient cross-functional team of engineering, design, marketing and sales. We all contribute to the product vision and are measured against shared objectives.
You will be working in a small engineering/product team and will be expected to drive value for the business and customers. We are big on autonomy and light on ceremony and meetings.
The key technologies we use are Svelte, React, TypeScript, Python, PostgreSQL and AWS.
You will get to own all US domains, contributing across four crucial projects, all at different stages. Having the chance to work from greenfield concepts, contributing from MVP stage to release, pushing brand new products into the market; such as our very first US debit card, Stream Direct and a new ‘save’ product.
We’re scaling quickly in the US market, adding to our existing three million active users, and therefore you will be supporting that growth, seeing upward of 30+ clients being onboarded at any time.
On top of releasing new products, you will be building improved banking infrastructure, real time payments while streamlining operational tooling.
This role can either be out-out front end or a mixture across the stack, depending on your strengths.
The Team:
The US team owns all domains specific to that region. Each week we host a cross-functional planning session where we agree the priorities for the coming week, discuss the scope of work and resolve any ambiguities. We then run a daily stand-up in where we aim to resynchronise our understanding of key priorities and resolve any blockers.
What will you be doing?
- Ship quickly, fail sometimes, deliver constantly.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to define new features for employees and employers
- Test, and release new features (ideally to a subset of our total audience)
- Work with data science team to analyse effectiveness, and tweak where necessary
- "Push the button" and release your creation into the wild
- Contribute to the broader engineering team (best practices, tools, technologies)
What experience might you have? (But if you’re close… we'd still love to talk to you!)
- Exposure to TypeScript and at least one modern web/mobile framework. This could be React, Svelt, Angular, Vue, or something else, but you should be comfortable switching frameworks and picking the right tool for the job
- An interest in creating responsive UIs for web & mobile consumers
- An eye for aesthetics: you need to know when something isn’t good enough
- Can-be-learnts:
- Within the role, you’ll gain expert-level knowledge of Svelte & React, the main frameworks we use in the app
- Knowledge of Mobile-specific development (e.g. understanding the iOS/Android tool-chain)
- Experience using Figma
Salary: Dependant on experience. Salaries range from £55,000 - £95,000 + equity.
Working Policy: We operate a hybrid policy with a requirement of 3 days a week in the office
What will we do for you?
- 25 Days Annual Leave in addition to public holidays (up to 5 day rollover), as well as flexible time off allowances for any ad-hoc childcare/family/caring needs
- 24 weeks' paid Maternity Leave and 4 weeks paid Paternity Leave for employees with over 12 months service
- Special Leave for In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and other fertility treatments
- Sabbatical scheme
- Paid leave to volunteer
- Private Healthcare including comprehensive mental and physical healthcare
- Salary sacrifice to pension, as well as bonus exchange to Pension: reap even more rewards of any bonus by paying into your pension & save on Tax and NI + added compound growth
- Season Ticket Loan
- Access to Salary Sacrifice Schemes via ThanksBen: THE Benefits marketplace. Choose the benefits you want, when you want. Pay less tax, receive more value, including: Workplace nurseries, Cycle to Work, Home and Tech Scheme and more.
- The best benefit of all, access to Stream!
