The Vitals: What You'll Be Doing
This full-time role requires depth in both practical performance and academic theory, contributing significantly to the school's artistic reputation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advanced Instruction: Teach Drama and Theatre Studies with flair and rigour across all secondary levels, specialising in GCSE, A-Level , and potentially Pre-U/IB, ensuring exceptional results.
- Artistic Direction: Direct and produce high-quality, large-scale school productions and intimate showcase pieces, managing all aspects from casting to set design and technical elements.
- Curriculum Development: Design and deliver a sophisticated curriculum that explores a diverse range of theatrical traditions, critical theories, and contemporary practitioners, encouraging profound critical engagement.
- Talent Nurturing: Provide expert guidance for students pursuing drama school auditions or university courses, leading masterclasses and advanced practical workshops.
- Co-Curricular Leadership: Oversee and expand the school's co-curricular drama programme, including clubs, trips to professional theatres, and inter-house competitions.
Candidate Profile: What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will be an experienced, dynamic, and academically rigorous drama specialist who thrives in a demanding independent school environment.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualification: A strong degree (2:1 or higher) in Drama, Theatre Studies , or a relevant Performing Arts discipline.
- Certification: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, or a proven track record of successful, high-level teaching within the independent sector.
- Experience: Extensive, successful experience teaching Drama at the secondary level, with expertise and strong results at A-Level or equivalent high-stakes examinations.
