Mechanical Technician (Healthcare Environment)

Pay Rate: £18.56 - £21.74 per hour (PAYE)
On-Call Standby Fee: £19.56
Shift Pattern: Initially Monday-Friday, moving to 4-on-4-off shift work
On-Call Requirement: 1 week per month (minimum 2.5 hours paid per call-out)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our team in a healthcare setting. This role involves maintaining and repairing critical building services and mechanical systems to ensure safe and efficient operation across the site.
You will carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) , respond to breakdowns, and perform repairs on HVAC systems, boilers, water systems, and drainage. The position includes Authorised Person (AP) and Competent Person (CP) responsibilities, as well as participation in an on-call rota once familiar with the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform PPM on HVAC systems, boilers, calorifiers, water systems, and other building services.
- Diagnose and repair faults, including emergency breakdowns.
- Clear blockages in drainage systems and repair leaks.
- Maintain AHUs, FCUs, TMVs, and ensure compliance with L8 water hygiene standards.
- Carry out AP and CP duties in line with safety regulations.
- Complete risk assessments and method statements for all works.
- Collaborate with other maintenance teams and provide technical support.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential:
- Level 3 Plumbing/Mechanical qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent).
- Proven experience in mechanical maintenance and fault diagnosis.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital environment.
- Valid driving license (if required for site access).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Physically and mentally resilient for demanding conditions.
