The Opportunity

At Holcim UK , we’re building progress for people and the planet, and we’re looking for an experienced Senior HGV Mechanic to join our team at our Thames Materials site . This is a hands-on role where you’ll play a key part in maintaining and improving the reliability of our vehicle fleet, supporting the growth and development of other HGV Mechanics on site.

We’re looking for a skilled HGV Mechanic to work on a mixed fleet of tipper and grab trucks , carrying out everything from routine servicing through to diagnostics and MOT preparation work , ensuring all vehicles are safe, compliant and ready for operation.

You’ll be responsible for keeping our fleet operating efficiently, minimising downtime and ensuring all maintenance is completed to a high standard. As a senior member of the team, you’ll also support best practice across the workshop and contribute to continuous improvement.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs across a fleet of tipper and grab trucks

  • Preparing vehicles for MOT inspections , ensuring compliance with all legal and safety standards

  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs to minimise downtime

  • Completing both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repair work

  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with Health & Safety and DVSA standards

  • Maintaining accurate service records, inspection sheets and maintenance documentation

  • Supporting fleet reliability by identifying recurring issues and recommending improvements

  • Working closely with operations and logistics teams to ensure vehicle availability

  • Ensuring workshop tools, equipment and working areas are maintained to a high standard

  • Supporting and mentoring junior fitters or apprentices where required

What You’ll Bring
  • Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic / HGV Technician , ideally in a similar fleet environment

  • Strong knowledge of HGV maintenance, servicing and repair , including hydraulics and electrical systems

  • Experience working on tipper and grab trucks - Experience working with Volvo and Scania trucks would be beneficial but not essential

  • Solid understanding of MOT preparation and vehicle compliance standards

  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills

  • A proactive and solution-focused approach to maintenance

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. NVQ/City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent)
