Motorway is backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors, having raised £143 million in Series C funding.
This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing scale-up at a crucial phase of growth and help change an industry for the better.
Hi, I’m Manuele Maggi, Engineering Manager at Motorway. I’m looking for an Android
Engineer to join our Mobile Engineering group and help us build a best-in-class experience
for our Sellers.
This is a great opportunity to join a talented and supportive team, working alongside
engineers, product managers and designers to fundamentally change the way people sell
their car. You’ll contribute to meaningful features used by customers across the UK, develop
your technical skills and explore the latest tools and technologies—with AI increasingly
embedded in how we build and work.
About the role
As an Android Engineer, you’ll take ownership of well-defined features and contribute
throughout the development lifecycle, from early ideas through to release and iteration.
Day-to-day, you’ll be:
Collaborating with designers, product managers and other engineers to build high-quality customer experiences.
Designing, building and shipping Android features using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
Contributing to the development of our in-house Server-Driven UI framework, helping us deliver features and dynamic experiences more quickly.
Supporting and improving our mobile infrastructure, including CI/CD pipelines with
GitHub Actions, Google Play deployment workflows and automated UI testing.
Writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
Participating in code reviews and technical discussions, learning from others while sharing your own ideas.
Paying close attention to UI detail, accessibility and the overall app experience.
Building an understanding of the backend systems and APIs that power our app.
Monitoring released features and helping to resolve issues when they arise.
Contributing to the engineering standards and practices used across the Mobile Engineering group.
About youWe’re looking for someone with:
Commercial experience building Android applications.
Good knowledge of Kotlin and modern Android development.
Experience with Jetpack Compose, or an interest in developing your skills with it.
An understanding of common mobile development principles, patterns and testing practices.
Experience building and releasing features as part of a collaborative product team.
The ability to write clear, maintainable and well-tested code.
Good collaboration and communication skills.
A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of your work.
Curiosity and a genuine desire to continue learning and developing as an engineer.
You could be a great fit if
You’ve contributed to reusable components or modules.
You enjoy working closely with product and design to solve customer problems.
You’re comfortable owning features while asking for support when needed.
You care about building polished, reliable and accessible mobile experiences.
You’re interested in using modern technologies, including AI, to improve products and engineering workflows.
You enjoy sharing ideas, receiving feedback and learning from experienced engineers.
Bonus
You don’t need to tick every box, but it would be helpful if:
You have experience with Server-Driven UI.
You have worked with A/B testing or experimentation.
You have some exposure to CI/CD and automated mobile testing.
You have integrated ML or AI-powered functionality into an app.
You have experience or an interest in backend or full-stack development.
You have experience taking a feature from an initial idea through to release.
