DT Technician Role in a Secondary School

A well-established secondary school in Hounslow is seeking to appoint a DT Technician to join its Design & Technology department. This is a full-time role within a busy and supportive school environment that values practical learning, creativity, and workshop safety.

The DT department plays a key role in supporting teaching and learning across subjects such as Product Design, Resistant Materials, Engineering, and Graphics, ensuring practical lessons run smoothly and safely.

About the Role

You will support the Design & Technology department by preparing materials, maintaining workshop equipment, and ensuring teaching spaces are fully set up for practical lessons.

The role involves working closely with teaching staff to support practical projects, demonstrations, and student learning across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5.

You will also assist with stock control, machinery maintenance checks, and maintaining a safe and organised workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials and equipment for DT practical lessons

  • Set up and clear down workshops and classrooms

  • Maintain tools, machinery, and specialist equipment

  • Support teachers during practical sessions where required

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures

  • Manage stock control and order resources when necessary

  • Maintain safe, clean, and organised workshop areas

  • Support the smooth running of the DT department

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in a workshop, technical, maintenance, or DT setting (school experience desirable)

  • Good practical and organisational skills

  • Understanding of workshop health and safety procedures

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Desirable

  • Experience as a DT Technician in a school or college

  • Knowledge of woodworking, engineering, CAD, or workshop machinery

  • First aid or health and safety training
