Conservation Coordinator

Science Museum Group
Kensington & Chelsea, Greater London

Do you have the organisational skills and digital know-how to keep complex projects, people and priorities running smoothly? Are you looking for a varied role where your coordination and communication skills will directly support the care and preservation of world-class collections?

About us

The Science Museum Group (SMG) operates one of the largest, most complex and iconic science-based estates in the world, incorporating the Science Museum in London, the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, the National Railway Museum in York, Locomotion in Shildon, the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, and the Science + Innovation Park in Wroughton.

We welcome over 5 million visitors a year and house 7.3 million items, and we have an ambitious and exciting investment programme to transform our sites to enhance the visitor experience and ensure our collection is protected for generations to come.

About the role

As Conservation Coordinator, you'll be at the heart of our Conservation & Collections Care team, supporting the Head of Conservation & Collections Care and senior colleagues to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of their work. From coordinating meetings, events and projects to updating budget information and dashboards, communications and social media, you'll keep the team organised and supported so they can focus on preserving, conserving and researching the collection, while delivering the Science Museum Group's business plan and cultural programme. This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys bringing structure, efficiency and a motivated approach to a busy and purposeful team.

The role will be based contractually at one of the Science Museum Group national sites, although it will have a Group-wide remit, so some limited travel to other sites is possible.

About you

We're keen to see applications from highly organised and detail-focused candidates with well-developed administrative skills who thrive in a busy environment. You'll bring solid attention to detail, and you'll be proficient in using Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams, with the ability to pick up new digital tools and systems quickly - experience with SharePoint or similar would be especially valuable.

With the ability to coordinate diaries, produce meeting papers and minutes, and maintain filing systems, you'll be adept at managing your own workload, prioritising effectively, and working with professionalism and self-awareness. An experienced problem-solver, you'll have the confidence to make sense of complex information and keep projects moving forward. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are key, enabling you to build relationships, coordinate activities, and engage professionally with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.

While not essential, an interest in or experience of working within a museum, heritage, or arts setting, particularly with collections management, would be a welcome addition.

Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
