In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and providing technical guidance on engines, gearboxes, axles, and electrical faults, including body systems.

You will bring multi-system expertise and lead complex fault-finding activities, particularly in areas such as CAN systems, after-treatment exhaust systems, Euro 5/Euro 6 engines, multiplex systems, electrical faults, and high-voltage/hybrid diagnostics.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Carry out diagnostic testing on a wide range of company vehicles and equipment
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical and electrical diagnostics
  • Take ownership of technical campaigns and fleet checks within the depot
  • Report identified faults to the Technical and Systems Manager
  • Provide technical advice and support to the Engineering Manager
  • Support projects and trials on behalf of the Engineering Director and/or Technical Manager
  • Build strong working relationships with engineers and mentor apprentices where appropriate
  • Maintain effective communication with chassis/body manufacturers and OEM suppliers

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of diagnostic equipment and electrical components (e.g. alternators, starter motors, wiring harnesses)
  • Experience with diagnostic software such as Cummins Insite, Volvo Tech Tool, ACTIA, WABCO, and Xentry
  • Proficient in IT systems including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Good understanding of the Company Operating Licence requirements
  • Willingness to continually develop skills and attend training
  • Full UK driving licence (maximum 6 points)
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Flexible approach to changing priorities within a busy depot environment
