Not For Profit People are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established national animal welfare charity.

Our client is one of the UK's leading animal welfare organisations, with a significant property portfolio that supports vital frontline services, community operations, retail activities, and animal care facilities across the country.

They are now seeking an experienced Estates Surveyor to join their Estates & Construction team and help ensure their diverse estate remains safe, compliant, fit for purpose, and capable of supporting the organisation's mission both now and in the future.

About the Role

As Estates Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of properties across London and the South East, providing expert property, maintenance and estate management support to operational teams and stakeholders.

You will oversee planned and reactive maintenance, manage small-scale building projects, support leasehold acquisitions and disposals, and ensure compliance across a varied portfolio that includes animal welfare facilities, retail premises, residential properties and legacy assets.

Working closely with colleagues, contractors, landlords, consultants and local authorities, you will play a key role in maintaining high service standards and helping the charity deliver its strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a designated portfolio of properties, coordinating repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Provide professional surveying and estate management advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee property projects and maintenance works in line with agreed service standards.
  • Assess property issues and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records across property management systems and databases.
  • Support lease renewals, acquisitions, disposals and dilapidation matters.
  • Liaise with agents, landlords, neighbours, solicitors, contractors and local authorities.
  • Procure and manage contractors, ensuring compliance with procurement and health and safety requirements.
  • Monitor budgets and manage minor works and maintenance projects up to approximately £500,000.
  • Contribute to planned maintenance programmes, performance reporting and compliance monitoring.
  • Promote best practice, continuous improvement and effective stakeholder engagement across the estate.

About You

We are looking for a property professional who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent communication and organisational skills.

You will have:

  • Proven post-qualification experience within a property management, facilities management or surveying environment.
  • Experience managing multi-site property portfolios.
  • Knowledge of retail or commercial leases, acquisitions and disposals.
  • Experience delivering building maintenance or minor works projects within budget.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable

  • Level 6 qualification or above in Surveying, Building, Construction, Architecture or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a professional body such as RICS, RIBA, CIOB, CIBSE or IWFM.
  • Experience working within the charity or not-for-profit sector.

What's on Offer?

The successful candidate will join a values-led organisation making a tangible difference to animal welfare across the UK.

Benefits include:

  • Private medical insurance
  • Health cash plan
  • Generous annual leave allowance plus bank holidays
