CORE PURPOSE

We require a highly resilient, empathetic, and organized Pastoral Officer to drive student wellbeing and manage behavioural standards across a designated year group. Operating within an ambitious academy converter school, the successful candidate will work proactively to eliminate barriers to learning, implement day-to-day behavioural systems, oversee localized attendance interventions, and foster strong, collaborative partnerships between families and the school to ensure every pupil can access the curriculum.

The campus features modern, purpose-built pastoral hubs, collaborative student reflection spaces, and an extensive inclusion and mental health support network. Our behaviour management framework is built upon clear boundaries, immediate restorative practices, and a culture of high expectations, maintaining a calm, highly ordered, and purposeful learning environment across all key stages.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Year-Group Behavioural Supervision: Manage the daily behaviour and conduct of an assigned year group, conducting emergency classroom "on-calls," delivering immediate de-escalation support, and supervising internal reflection and inclusion units.

  • Targeted Attendance Interventions: Monitor daily registers via SIMS or BROMCOM, identify persistent absence (PA) patterns within the cohort, and design targeted attendance contracts in direct partnership with families and the Education Welfare Officer (EWO).

  • Meticulous Case Management: Maintain exceptionally precise, legally compliant student records on CPOMS, ensuring every behavioural incident, parental contact, and early-help intervention is logged with strict adherence to absolute confidentiality.

  • Multi-Agency Liaison Support: Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) by compiling evidence and coordinating direct support pathways with external services, including local Social Care teams, CAMHS, and youth community providers.

  • Restorative Student Mentoring: Deliver structured one-to-one and small-group mentoring sessions to at-risk students, focusing on emotional literacy, self-regulation strategies, uniform compliance, and improving academic accountability.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience & Competence: Proven experience in a pastoral, behavioural, or inclusion role within a busy secondary school environment. Strong familiarity with modern school information systems (CPOMS, SIMS, BROMCOM) is highly desirable.

  • De-escalation Capability: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to diffuse highly charged situations, manage challenging student confrontations, and maintain a calm, authoritative presence under pressure.

  • Collaborative Mindset: The flexibility and dedication required to work seamlessly alongside Form Tutors, Heads of Year, and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to uphold a consistent, whole-school behavioural culture.
