Underwriter – Construction & Liability
A well established and growing UK Managing General Agent is seeking an experienced Underwriter to join its London-based underwriting team. This role focuses on underwriting construction and contracting risks under delegated binding authority from A-rated insurer partners.
The Role
You will be responsible for underwriting new business and renewals in line with agreed binder parameters, primarily within the construction and contracting sector. The position offers exposure to a broad range of liability and specialty covers and the opportunity to build strong broker relationships across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite new and renewal construction and contracting risks in accordance with binder guidelines
- Work closely with the Underwriting Team Manager to develop broker and insurer relationships
- Promote products to brokers via telephone and broker meetings
- Ensure underwriting decisions and communications are accurately recorded for audit purposes
- Operate in line with Consumer Duty, Conduct Risk, and regulatory standards at all times
Experience & Qualifications
- Previous Construction or Construction Liability underwriting experience with an MGA or insurer
- Construction liability experience strongly preferred
- CII qualification beneficial but not essential
Skills & Competencies
- Strong communication skills with the ability to trade with brokers and agents
- Solid understanding of delegated authority underwriting
- High level of administrative and regulatory awareness
- Ability to maintain and develop broker relationships
- Competent underwriting knowledge across core MGA products
