PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As a Senior Data Analyst within the Content Analytics team, your role will support the Video and Sport divisions covering TV, iPlayer, and the Sport site and app. Working proactively under the Principal Data Analyst, your day-to-day work will help to inform our commissioning by delivering data-driven insight projects in collaboration with stakeholders across Audiences, Strategy, Finance, and Planning. WHY JOIN THE TEAM
Within Content Analytics, you will have the opportunity to work at the heart of our strategy, helping to build the bridge between our audiences and the content we create to help build a BBC fit for the future. The team of 10 enthusiastic, skilled analysts spans all BBC products, allowing for varied development opportunities as you build your career with us.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Deliver end-to-end analysis projects by scoping requirements, extracting and analysing data, then presenting back findings to stakeholders
- Produce clear visualisations to communicate trends within datasets, and extract meaningful insights to help answer business questions
- Help non-data oriented colleagues understand where analysis can help them with their day-to-day roles
- Build strong working relationships by encouraging open dialogue, navigating conflicting needs to reach balanced solutions, and managing delivery expectations
- Flexibly pivot and adapt communication style depending on the seniority and technical understanding of stakeholders, influencing decisions through trust and credibility
- Help to train and mentor junior analysts in analytics techniques
- Collaborate with other technical teams across the BBC, supporting cross-departmental alignment
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Education to degree level or above in STEM subject, or equivalent experience
- Significant experience using at least one data scripting language such as Python, R or SQL, and working knowledge of additional tooling relevant to the specifics of the role
- Demonstrable experience in statistical theory, quantitative analytics, forecasting/predictive modelling, multivariate testing, and data industry standards
- Experience in delivering analytics projects in corporate or public sector organisations
- Experience in creating highly effective data visualisations, maximising the impact of insight by translating complex ideas into clear visuals for senior audiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adapting style to suit different audiences and levels of technical understanding
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- A good understanding of linear and on demand television services, news media, online publishing, with a knowledge of key competitors
- Understanding of how the digital and media landscape is evolving and some implications for the BBC
- Experience using data visualisation tools, e.g. Tableau, Shiny R, Python Dash
