Personal Assistant
My name is John. I was born in the US but was raised in China, and have lived in the UK for the last 5 years. I am 29 years old, self-employed and do a lot of heavy intellectual work, these days mainly working on a book that involves a lot of research and cataloging of records, which is a few months from completion. However, I have issues with focus and am a terrible procrastinator when it comes to domestic chores, tasks, and getting organized. However, I find that simply having someone around as a passive sounding board massively helps me in getting engaged in the tasks I need to do. I've just moved to a new place a couple of months ago in Caledonian Road and Barnsbury, and am trying to use take this as an opportunity to do a massive de-cluttering of a bunch of boxes that I have in storage, which I need some support in getting fully on top of in the next few weeks. If you have any experience in working with ADHD, this is referred to in that context as "body-doubling." A succinct explanation found online of this practice is as follows: "ADHD body doubling is a practice in which a person with ADHD works on and completes potentially frustrating tasks alongside another person. This other person is the "body double" for the person with ADHD. The body double's job is to help anchor the person with ADHD to the present moment and task, reducing the risk of distraction. This practice emerged in the self-help literature as a strategy for ADHD self-management. There is no recent research testing its effectiveness, but anecdotal evidence from people with ADHD suggests that they find it helpful and soothing. The body double may make a boring task more rewarding and fun. Alternatively, they may place subtle pressure on the person with ADHD to remain focused. In some cases, the mere presence of a body double soothes the anxious mind of a person with symptoms of hyperactivity. A body double can also model attentive, focused work." I'm thus looking for someone that I can feel very open and comfortable with, so good levels of maturity / emotional intelligence are a plus, but other than that I don't feel any particular special experience/skills/background are required. I'm really looking for a sounding board to help me stay engaged as I try to declutter and get myself organized, to prevent me from continuing to avoid and procrastinate it. In this regard, having a reasonable level of intelligence, maturity, and communication ability so we can be candid and comfortable with each other is a big point. Having a good understanding of the situation at hand to be a good sounding board for little decisions is also very helpful. I'm open to different types of arrangements in terms of scheduling and pay. Ideally you could do at least some full days bunched up at the start to sort of get on top of things to begin with, and then after that shift to a few hours a day, but as I say I'm open to anything... a few hours each day, or a few full days per week. As long as we're meeting and getting things done together, that's really what counts and I could use quite a bit of hours each week if we're working well together. Please get in touch if you're interested, and we can either have a videocall, or meet for a coffee and discuss that way. Look forward to speaking with you soon! John
