Year 1 Teacher - Southwark
Location: Southwark, London
Salary: MPS/UPS (Inner London)
Contract Type: Full-time
We are seeking a nurturing, enthusiastic, and dedicated Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Southwark. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Key Stage 1 practitioner to support pupils at a vital stage of their educational journey as they transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage into more structured learning.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for a Year 1 class and deliver high-quality teaching across the National Curriculum. You will plan engaging, well-sequenced lessons that develop early literacy, phonics, writing, and numeracy skills while continuing to support pupils’ social, emotional, and personal development. Creating a classroom environment that is structured yet nurturing will be central to your role.
Assessment will be used effectively to monitor progress and inform planning. You will differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, EAL, or additional learning needs. Working closely with teaching assistants and Key Stage 1 colleagues, you will ensure pupils receive consistent and targeted support.
Strong relationships with parents and carers are highly valued. You will communicate clearly and positively, sharing progress, celebrating achievements, and working collaboratively to support pupils’ development. You will also contribute to whole-school initiatives and curriculum development.
This role is suitable for Early Career Teachers and experienced teachers. ECTs will benefit from a structured induction and mentoring programme, while experienced practitioners will have opportunities to take on additional responsibilities and share best practice.

Create a nurturing, inclusive, and well-managed classroom
Assess, track, and report on pupil progress
