SEN Teaching Assistant - SEN Unit
Wandsworth, London
£90 – £100 per day (pro-rata) | Full-time | Long-term with potential for permanency
Monday–Friday, approx. 8:30am–15:30pm (term time only)
Start: ASAP
Some of the children in our care don’t need big displays — they need patience, understanding, and an adult who helps them feel safe, supported, and celebrated for who they are.
We’re working with a warm, inclusive SEN Unit in Wandsworth that is seeking a calm, dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. The setting prides itself on providing a nurturing, structured environment where every child’s unique needs are met with compassion, consistency, and expertise.
The children you’ll support have a range of special educational needs, and each has their own strengths, challenges, and ways of communicating. They need adults who can follow personalised plans, encourage independence, and adapt learning and interactions to suit their individual profiles. This is a setting where staff work closely, value each other’s strengths, and celebrate every small step of progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Support children with personalised learning plans and individualised targets
- Assist with communication, sensory regulation, and social interaction
- Provide calm, nurturing support to help children feel safe and ready to learn
- Adapt activities to meet a range of learning and developmental needs
- Support with care routines where necessary (e.g., feeding, toileting, mobility)
- Work collaboratively with the SEN team, therapists, and teachers
- Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of all students in your care
What the Setting Offers
- A highly supportive, collaborative SEN team
- Training in safeguarding, SEN strategies, communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton), sensory needs, and behaviour support
- Guidance from skilled leaders who prioritise staff and student wellbeing
- A friendly, valued working environment where every role makes a difference
This Role Is Ideal For Someone Who:
- Has a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs
- Is patient, adaptable, and confident working with a range of needs
- Can remain calm and reassuring in both structured and challenging moments
- Has experience in SEN settings, specialist units, mainstream schools, or care/therapy roles
- Is looking for a meaningful part-time role during the school day
If this SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN Unit) position sounds right for you, please apply today or contact Wayman Education for more information.
