Lead Mechanical Engineer, EMEA

Verda
London

At Verda, we're building a full-stack AI cloud, covering everything from data centers and hardware to our own cloud platform that the world's leading AI teams use to do serious AI work.

We strive to make a positive mark on the world through the infrastructure we build and give leading teams a service they can truly depend on. Headquartered in Helsinki, we operate globally with offices in London and San Francisco.

Join Verda while it's still being built - not once it's finished.

Why Verda

  • Cash and equity compensation along with various fringe benefits (healthcare, lunch, wellbeing, and more).

  • Profitable operations with rapid, sustained growth.

  • 30+ nationalities, with 6 different ones on the management team.

  • A real chance to make an impact and work alongside world class engineers, researchers, and partners across the global AI ecosystem.

Practicalities

  • Work mode: Hybrid, based in Helsinki or across EMEA, with travel to sites as projects require.

  • Level: Senior to Lead.

  • Employment type: Full time and permanent.

About the role

As Lead Mechanical Engineer you own how our sites stay cool. You will design the cooling architecture for high density AI and GPU halls, set the airflow and containment strategy, plan thermal capacity, and push hard on energy efficiency. It is a defining discipline for an AI data center, where rack densities are climbing and liquid cooling is fast becoming the norm.

Your responsibilities

  • Design cooling architecture, including CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, and liquid / direct-to-chip cooling for GPU and AI racks

  • Define airflow management and hot / cold aisle containment strategy

  • Perform thermal capacity planning across the facility

  • Optimise designs for energy efficiency and low PUE

  • Coordinate with electrical, structural, and controls disciplines so the mechanical design lands as one integrated system

Your key competencies

The ideal candidate has designed mission-critical cooling at scale and is ready for the shift to liquid cooling driven by AI workloads.

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering

  • 7 to 10 years in HVAC or mission-critical cooling design

  • Strong grasp of PUE optimisation and thermal modelling

  • Track record coordinating across engineering disciplines

Nice to have

  • Direct-to-chip or immersion liquid cooling experience

  • Data center or other high density industrial facility experience

  • Familiarity with building in the Nordics

What's next

We're building fast and this role needs the right person behind it. There's no artificial deadline, but when we find who we're looking for, we move. If this sounds like your next move, apply now.

Please submit your application through our Careers page. We don't accept applications sent by email.
