Are you passionate about supporting the leadership on William Gilliatt ward? We are looking for an enthusiastic midwife to join the Ward Management team as ward manager on a 12-month secondment.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the day to day working of the antenatal and postnatal ward. Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, you will ensure that the ward areas provide excellent and safe care to all patients and their families. Supporting and guiding the team of midwives and maternity support workers to deliver this care.

We are looking for a motivated and credible midwife. You will be an excellent communicator, a positive role model and someone who enjoys supporting and developing colleagues across multidisciplinary teams.

Main duties of the job

This post is a secondment to cover maternity leave for the William Gilliatt Antenatal Postnatal Midwifery Ward Manager. The postholder will work alongside the current ward management team sharing the line management of a team of midwives and MSW’s working across both areas. The appointed candidate will ensure the following:

You will lead and oversee day to day operations on the antenatal and postnatal wards supporting a large team of midwives and maternity support workers in providing high quality maternity care to women and their babies. Providing effective, dynamic and cohesive midwifery leadership and management to a team of midwives, student midwives and junior doctors working in The Antenatal and Postnatal ward environment on a rotational basis. The role will require you to provide visible clinical leadership to the maternity teams alongside the current ward management team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To share in the staff management duties required of the team such as sickness absence management, appraisal completion, roster management and staff wellbeing initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of quality improvement initiatives within the area and promoting positive patient experience.
  • To deliver robust evidence-based midwifery care and promote individualised women centred midwifery care in partnership with women and other stakeholders.
  • To act as an exemplary role model and effective and pivotal resource to midwifery and other staff.
  • To have competent and proficient IT knowledge and skills to aid effective communication throughout and management of the maternity unit.
  • Provide support to aid patient flow through the wider maternity unit.
  • Ensure safety and quality is prioritised day to day and provide assurance around this

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of ongoing and sustained CPD
  • Mentorship or equivalent

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of National NHS agenda and the National Maternity Transformation requirements
  • Ability to both influence and work across professional boundaries
  • Knowledge of quality, standard setting, and audit
