Founded in 1924, Walter Lilly is a premier provider of construction services for iconic landmark and heritage buildings, and state-of-the-art science and higher education facilities across London and the Home Counties.

The Benefits

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Senior Health and Safety Manager, with a strong background in construction, to join our forward-thinking and collaborative organisation.
  • Be part of a company that values quality, safety, and innovation.

  • Influence strategic decisions and shape the future of SHEQ in luxury construction.

  • Work on some of the most prestigious projects in the UK.

  • Enjoy a competitive salary and benefits.

As part of a growing group with ambitious plans, you’ll benefit from strong leadership support and the chance to help shape the success of our most high-profile projects.

The Culture

Our values underpin who we are. They form an important benchmark for everyone – collectively and individually. We are:

Empathetic - People-driven and focused
Tenacious - Relentless pursuit of the highest standards
Integrity - Integrity earns trust. Trust builds relationships
Entrepreneurial - Self-starters that push beyond the obvious

We boast a culture that is focused on training and development, career paths and internal progression. What’s more, we’re committed to our employees and offer a range of benefits to support your lifestyle both in and out of the workplace.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Health & Safety Manager to lead and drive health, safety and wellbeing standards across our London project portfolio. Covering two specialist construction businesses within the Group, this role will support complex, high‑value projects ranging from super‑prime residential developments to heritage refurbishments and technically demanding science and higher education facilities.

Reporting at senior level, you will provide strategic leadership, practical guidance and visible site presence, ensuring a consistent and proactive safety culture across all projects. You will work closely with Directors, Project Teams and Supply Chain Partners to embed best practice, maintain regulatory compliance and continuously improve performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Group’s Health & Safety strategy across London projects.

  • Provide expert advice and hands‑on support to project teams on CDM regulations, risk management and safe systems of work.

  • Promote a positive, engaged safety culture at all levels, acting as a trusted advisor and role model.

  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits and reviews, ensuring actions are tracked and closed out effectively.

  • Oversee accident, incident and near‑miss reporting, investigation and corrective actions, identifying trends and areas for improvement.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, regulators and external auditors.

  • Support pre‑construction teams by reviewing methodologies, risk assessments and construction phasing.

  • Manage and mentor Health & Safety Advisors, ensuring consistent standards and development across the Group.

  • Monitor health, safety and wellbeing KPIs, producing clear reports for senior management and board‑level review.

  • Ensure subcontractor compliance through robust assessment, monitoring and engagement.

About You

To be considered for this role you must be or have:

  • A chartered or working‑towards‑chartered Health & Safety professional (e.g. IOSH CMIOSH) with relevant qualifications such as NEBOSH Diploma.

  • Significant experience in a senior Health & Safety role within construction, ideally across high‑value residential, heritage or technically complex projects.

  • Strong knowledge of UK construction legislation, including CDM and best practice guidance.

  • Confident operating at senior leadership and site level, with the ability to influence, challenge and support teams constructively.

  • Commercially aware, pragmatic and solutions‑focused, with a clear understanding of project delivery pressures.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage effectively with clients, consultants and site operatives alike.

  • Organised, resilient and comfortable working across multiple projects in a fast‑paced London environment.

  • A genuine commitment to health, safety and wellbeing, with a drive for continuous improvement rather than simple compliance.
