We know that our success is derived from a total commitment to pursue excellence in both our people and our technology which we invest heavily in. *** The Role: The Base Metals desk is responsible for the trading and marketing of copper and nickel within Onyx Commodities. The desk seeks a Senior Trader focussing on copper trading to lead the book in trading international copper contracts. The Senior Trader will lead from the front, developing profitable strategies and streamlining desk interactions with the market. The successful applicant will be very commercially minded, and able to demonstrate a track record of successfully trading within base metals. The candidate must have extensive knowledge and experience of base metal trading, with minimum 5 years’ experience of profitable trading in commodities. Experience gained within an Investment Bank, Commodity Trading House, market maker or hedge fund with a good provenance and reputation will be considered. The trader must a have the ability to trade within pre-defined limits on behalf of the Company. Your job responsibilities will include: Ability to trade under pressure and to tight deadlines. Researching, developing, back testing, and implementing trading strategies. Managing the full spectrum of trading exposures and risks within agreed parameters. Writing robust portfolio construction based on multiple signals. Contributing to the improvement of a state-of-the-art data pipeline that allows for fast strategy and insight generation. Understanding and communicating risks being taken. Cultivating a reputation as a valued team player. Leading by example with error free work. Observing and strictly complying with all regulatory guidelines and requirements and compliance with internal policies and procedures. Coaching & educating colleagues, including those on other teams. Making time for innovation and discussion of growth opportunities, apportioning time appropriately between real time trading and business development. Staying up to date regarding new regulations or trends that can affect the business. Continuously monitoring the market to identify the risk to trade and hedge physical positions. Demonstrating safe behaviour in the workplace. A strong knowledge and understanding of physical trading, logistics and contract administration would be beneficial. The skills and qualifications requirements for the job are as follows: A bachelor’s, masters, or PhD in mathematics, science, engineering, computer science, economics, quantitative finance or related field. Experienced (profitable) trader with 5 years + of work experience. Experience of pricing and managing Base Metals exchange and OTC risk. Ambitious individual with track record of being high achiever who relentlessly pursues accelerated progression. Strong interest in trading and financial markets. Excellent numerical, financial and analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to deploy those skills during time-sensitive situations. Familiar with trading from an operational and risk perspective and have front end trading experience. Proficiency in back-testing, simulation, and statistical techniques. Strong background in mathematics and statistics, with good knowledge of statistical models and signal generation. Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team, dealing with multiple stakeholders and front office traders.
